in another forum i saw recently a beautyful MARANTZ - box and remembered immediately that i saw the SUPERSCOPE - aka for sale - immediately i decided my life isn't worth a dime without one of those, and off i went to quickly bring it home

it's quite clean, powers up and plays well, sound is actually not too bad for some rather light plastic- speakers and that solid aluminium- front really rocks !

i'm going to give it new belts, a good clean and some buffering soon...

It's no secret that I love the Marantz - Superscope - Unix Units but the different versions of the equipment is mind-boggling. I've only seen the Superscope Version of this box for sale, used, in Europe, and this is only the 2nd time in 7+ years that one's publicly changed hands that I know of. Superscope seemed more of a USA Brand and they sold their interest in Marantz around 1980. I always thought this box was 1982? but it must be earlier to have the Superscope Name.

Mine has those detachable speakers that you have to be extra careful with, it's the only thing that gives me fits, they tend to not want to stay attached when you pick up the unit.

Here's some photos of Marantz Europe (Peronnes France).

Now, a little hole in the wall....

A nice box and some nice photos. You could tell the age of the photos from the cars.
The orange one in the 1977 photo is a Fiat 127, last made in 1977 with that style front.

You don't get cars in colours like that these days
I have no idea what has happened to the grey one next to it. A corrupted file perhaps.

I thought that grey (Datsun?) is backing up/parking but now agree, the grass lawn looks pixelated too: corruption!

@autoreverser scored nicely! Last year I almost got myself one, Golden Marantz for just $200 with pickup-only from Santa Monica. but by the time I made my mind it was gone :(
in my case, to continue living, I've decided then and there to stick with one-piece bboxes, no compos or detachable speakers for me :)

Jorge, don't let your living cloud your judgement. I opened my eyes several years ago, I found a JVC three piecer and walked right by it at the local thrift. I ended taking another look at it and buying it. Not only are my eyes open but it's like a whole nother realm. It was my second unit with detachable speakers, the first being my very first box back in the early 80's. Search for HiFi Tom's Old Threads and his quest for tru hi-fi boxes, a lot of them are compos and 3-piecers.......

It is rather a Wall, not a cloud! There is only so much space in one house and it is already taken by my main stereo plus bedroom stereo, which almost qualifies as a 3-piecer: Linn Classik + Linn Kans.
The beauty of Philips "The Elephant" is that it can be easily moved from my soldering den into the shed outside for a barbecuing/beer-ing session :drinks
