Hello Friends I want to show you a very cool discman (I guess) it was a portable discman but most specifically to be used at home with the hifi system, I have made some photographs with two vintage discmans for comparison Hope you enjoy
Nice!!! I've been after the P9 for ages. I always seem to miss them. I have the j9 which is a mains powered "desktop" unit that I've had from new in 85. Still works and sounds great. Well, I say great.... what I mean is good in the way that mid 80's CD sounded. It has a real nostalgia value which is why I'll never get rid of it. The P9 has a very similar aesthetic. Very bold and angular mid 80's styling, and a theme used across many of their products at time.
There is one for sale on ebay Australia right now. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Vintage-...396808?hash=item3ad79b8548:g:NH4AAOSw5cNYeG58
I think it is only for local pick up, I will end him/ her a Message to verify it By the way I didn't get it about what was said about power converters It was bought in US it is for 120 V, it has us plug, so how can it causes problem if used in US?
Back from the days when being able to afford a CD player for your Hi-Fi system and a separate Portable unit would have meant you were very rich. Looking at the French review I spotted the price of 3700F (French Francs). A bit of Googling of historic exchange rates turns that into $500 US Dollars or £340, That, and the price of CDs back then, explains why I didn't get a CD player until 1989.
Regarding prices, I remember paying 20000-pesetas (120€) in 1990 for my modest entry level Sony D33 Too much effort at that teenager times, but i was in love with thet sound from that discman... and I still am...
Found this ad and thought this would be a good place to post it. These are cool players and they did a huge advertising campaign for it with many different size ads, this one was a full page! They all seem to be black and white. I have the other Toshiba Player, it's small and flat but it's still very neat. This must have been one of the first threads on the "new" forum. From 1986
