    Hi everyone,

I’m working on a Sony WM-2055 and I’ve hit a wall. The mechanicals seem to be functioning, but I am getting complete silence from the headphone jack (no music, no hiss, no hum).

Here is what I have done so far:

    • Mechanical:

Replaced the belt. The motor runs, and the tape spins at what looks like the correct speed.

    • Cleaning:

Thoroughly cleaned the tape head, capstan, and pinch roller with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol.

    • Contacts:

Cleaned the headphone jack and the volume potentiometer (turned it rapidly many times to clear oxidation).

    • Inspection:

Opened the unit to check for obvious corrosion or battery leakage; the board looks very clean.

    • Testing:

Tested with multiple sets of known-working headphones and several different tapes.

Despite the tape moving across the head, there is zero audio output. I’ve checked the wires leading from the head to the board, and they appear to be intact.

Before I start probing with a multimeter or considering a full recap, are there any "usual suspects" for this specific model? For example, is there a specific leaf switch or internal Rec/Play slide switch that is known to fail on the WM-2055?

Any advice or a lead on a service manual would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance.
