    Hello,

I've repaired several players but I've never worked on a WM-D6/D6C until now. I have a D6C and D6 I want to work on and was looking for some assistance. Really appreciate any help.

Before testing players I checked the battery holder was not giving more than 6v. Tested both players with a 3.5mm to cassette adapter and they have no audio. Also when stopped the motor continues running on both. I checked the DC-DC convertor and they both have no 11v output.

I unsoldered both convertors and opened the metal shielding to find burnt components. On the D6C the tantalum cap is burnt. On the D6 it's the inductor that's burnt.

    Questions:
    • Since the DC-DC convertors are fried will there be other chips that are also fried?
    • If I replace the burnt components on the DC-DC is there a chance the player will work?
    • I found the DC-DC repair guide. I will replace the tantalums, inductors, and the transistor. On the guide they show which transistor to replace but the chip I have from the D6 is slightly different. Should I replace one of the transistors on that one as well? If yes which one and what is the value? (I attached a picture of both chips. D6 on the left and D6C on the right) IMG_9883.jpeg
    Thanks!

If you want to be sure, check the continuity of the transformer coils with a multimeter. It can go open-circuit, although not common.

Apart from the input tantalum, input inductor and switching transistor there's nothing else that gets damaged.
So best course of action is proceed in replacing those components.
