Saw this poor Tape Mechanism while thrift shopping...
there was also a low end Nakamichi deck there I totally would've got if it weren't missing the door. People can be really careless about their tape machines sometimes! IMG_20180810_183154.jpg IMG_20180810_183202.jpg

Nothing beats cleaning a really dirty tape mechanism!

Hi MigilusMigilacuty. I see what you mean. Have you managed to clean everything and- is it working? Lots of q.tips and alcohol i think. Best of luck.

Oh I just saw it while thrifting I didn't buy it, Sorry if I phrased it badly. It was just a Plain Jain low end JVC unit from the late 90's or early 2000's so I had no interest in it since I already have a very nice Panasonic Boombox from 91' that I'm plenty happy with.

You should have picked up the Nakamichi if it was in fairly good condition and the price was low, you could have got a door for it later.

A missing door? Are you sure it wasn't made by Crown?:lollegs:

I joke because my $5.00[new] Crown lost it's door within a month.

I'll obtain a Nakamichi deck eventually, preferably when I have more space in my hi-fi System ( I already have 3 cassette decks in there, not including the one still awaiting a new belt). I went back recently and it was gone, but hey at least there was an Optimus double deck still there am I right?

I have new 80's crown Walkman as well and I'm too afraid to take it out in fear of breaking it! Still better than any Emerson though.

I did not realise you already have 3 decks, you don’t need any more you only need 1 good deck. I have a Nakamichi CR-7, that’s good enough for me.

IMG_20180821_092020.jpg IMG_20180821_092057.jpg It appears to be copying the Solar Walkman by Sony IMG_20180821_092232.jpg Size Comparison With WM-F5 For reference IMG_20180821_092146.jpg They even copied the green headphone jack! It is actually a fairly decent sounding unit, If it weren't for the incredibly annoying motor noise in the background of course.

I like to have one specifically for recording and never for playback, So I can use it as long as possible, And I have actually been considering selling the third one since I never use it.

You know, that's actually not a bad idea. I have another Yamaha K-960 (silver face) in storage I gifted to my brother, which he never used and won't seem to miss. Perhaps I should have it refurbished by the same shop that did the other, and have a pair of matching decks for dubbing tapes from one to the other.

No, that isn't mine. I have the SZ-11... sadly, in pink:
    https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/113087883036

I know, this isn't pink... But as you saw on the box of yours they came in many colors, and I had fortune to find the only one left in-stock at that price--K-Mart's price--was pink. I later painted it's case in Chevy-engine orange, but that's a story for a thread I'll be writing soon.

Yeah, the motor was noisy on mine too. Still, it got me through one of the worst weeks of Summer Camp I endured... Just laying on my cot all day, volume to the max with whatever tapes I thought to bring.

I'd like to hear what your favorite tapes were to take when you post your thread:thumbup:. I know I never leave the house without at least 1 Phil Collins tape

I put my CR-7 in Bowers & Wilkins Nakamichi for a full service every 2 years or so to keep it in tiptop condition. For my Walkman, I rotate them weekly to keep the wear to a minimum.

I use a Sony TC-K615s (1994) as my main recorder, Makes great recordings but I find the azimuth too picky with prerecorded tapes so I leave it just as a recorder, I plan to eventually re-cap it after I have a little more practice on Walkmans, Walkmen? Personal Stereos. Also what kind of Personal stereo's do you use? I'd love to hear.

I use Sony WM-D6C x 2 of them was 3 just sold 1 as I don’t need 3, Sony WM-DC2 x 6 gave 1 away and all but 1 are in for service at the moment once they are fixed I may sell some and take it down to 2 or 3. 1 x Sony WM-DD9 which never sees the light of day as the D6C’s & DC2’s sound so much better. I don’t have any Sony WM-33’s left as it just lags behind all the other ones.

I use my Walkman on my daily commute to and from work. I use them all with an external amp the Ray Samuels P-51 Mustang.

dang I'm Impressed with Those, and the quantity! I've heard great things about those units. It must be pretty bulky to carry around a D6C and a separate amp though.
Now I wonder what it would be like to have a D6C, Amp, Portable EQ, cassette holder and separate battery case all strapped to your belt:nodding:....
I've been enjoying my Sony TCS-470 since I just recently restored it, I'm currently working on a post going into detail about it since it's such a cool and obscure unit.
