There's a lot of interesting units on that website!

The turntable/R2R is facinating, can't wait until Techmoan reviews it! Yes there really is a TT where you pull the platter off and replace it with a R2R reel. It looks like the reels are stacked double so the take-up reel is underneath the supply reel.

Sorry can't read any of this, yet.....

Since December 1955, the Elfa-6 tape recorder-radiogramophone has been produced by the Vilnius Electrotechnical Plant Elfa. A combined device that combines a gramophone for playing gramophone records at speeds of 78 and 33 rpm, as well as a tape recorder for recording phonograms, with their subsequent playback. Two-track sound recording is carried out by moving the block of heads in height. The speed of the tape is determined by the speed of rotation of the EPU disk, and also depends on the size of the take-up spool roll. The frequency range at a higher speed is 100 ... 5000, at a lower speed 100 ... 2000 Hz. During operation of the EPU - 100 ... 8000 Hz. Nonlinear distortion 4%. The rated output power of the amplifier is 1.5 W. The power consumed from a network is 70 W.

It took a long time but I finally found a Hitachi TRK-1100H! I found an ad for this, from 1972, posted down in the newspaper ad thread, and wondered if this might qualify as the first mini. There's still a small Sony I'm chasing but I think the advertising for this predates the Sony.

This is right around 10" (26 cm) wide and its very heavy, I have to believe the internals are packed with metal, Radiomuseum lists it at a hefty 6 lbs! This is the gold version, it also came in silver. The catalog says the film style tuning dial is unique, I've seen it on other models but this may be the first to use it.

What also might be a first are the side pins for a shoulder strap, I'd love to see what an early Hitachi Strap looks like but they may be generic and fit a camera's strap.

and....another unit not found on the wikiboombox!

Another addition to the collection, the Hitachi TRK-5450EX. T-ster posted his back when the "new" version of the forum started, outside of that there's very little information on the internet for one of the coolest mini's but after seeing one, I had to start the longggg search.

Mine is black, I think it looks a little more stately than the grey version, the printing really pops on it. The LCD clock would have been a bonus feature, they were starting to get affordable (with all the calculators getting pumped out) but still an expensive add-on.

This also came with a vinyl case, overall a nice, kind of heavy, unit. The bent handle is an optical illusion, I think it's straight.

Hitachi had some cool little mini's, there's still a few more on my radar, just need to find them.

Nice, it looks like the batteries say 79 which is around the year I'd guess. Is it made in Korea?

Surprised that the Realistic Minisette’s haven’t been mentioned.
I have a pristine Minisette 12 (their top of the line model I believe). Made by Sampo. It came in the original box and I just tracked down the manual for it. From the owner’s manual:
    ———————————————
It is a complete AM and FM radio, plus a high-quality cassette tape recorder/player. You can use it to make "live"' or "off-the-air" recordings, or use it as a fine radio.
    ———————————————
    A fine radio, indeed.

So you want me to post about the minis
    172150098075082394405680190680.jpg
Here are three and a half Sanyo mr-ff2 three-piece single cassette, five band equalizer metal tape and line in. Are these special features for this model? They operate on 6 C batteries. All of them work and they are all for sale. decentman4you2007@gmail.com Yes, they are JDM. The FM scales goes from 76 to 108.
    Now here's its bigger brother.
Sanyo Mr-Ff7 this operates on 8C batteries again line in five band equalizer and the FM scale goes from 76 to 108 JDM
    17215012917808623562110485290235.jpg
Then I could spend quite some time in here pulling the little ones off the shelf and taking a picture and just driving them and all that. I'll do that later.

C2g, do you have a favorite mini? Some of mine sound fantastic, mostly the ones with full-throw speakers like the Marantz CH5, the Sansui FX-700R (which might be made by Marantz and have the same speakers). The speaker cabs go back about 5" on those two. The little mono Sanyo/GE's also sound good considering how small they are.

Sansui. FX -500 this is the only one I can think of that is similar to what you're talking about cuz you didn't give me a picture. I need a picture picture. I can't remember things. I know pictures anyway.
This is one of those few radios that I started working on when I didn't know what the heck I was doing. So I put all the parts in a box and basically forgot about it and then when you mentioned sansui I remembered. Oh yes. 17215089416847125634996089736178.jpg
Somebody needs to remind me this is out in the shelf in the garage. I really need to try and repair this.

Made certain I had all the parts in the bag which is in the box with the bigger parts.

Just need some fixing. I don't remember what though.

The 500 is the same as the Marantz Bustang, Sansui had the FX-300R (the smallest), the FX-700R and your model, I think they were all made by Marantz. Yours looks like it has the same speakers that go back several inches and it isn't air, it's the speaker frame. That's one model I need to add to the collection ; )

Do I have a favorite mini cassette? Boombox I would have to say show you this link.

    1. I have to impress you with something though. And that is I used to not like this model, because it takes seven C batteries to operate it. And I play all my portables on batteries.
    2. Znter batteries when they came into the world then my mind changed because these rechargeables last so much longer than alkalines.
    3. Using the Znter rechargeable batteries because they output 1.5 volts constantly throughout their entire useful life with a 2 amp throughput so that makes for a much better portable experience.
    4. Sanyo models I like in general because this one in particular that I've noted above has a very good inside of it. Build quality using better longer lasting potentiometers than found in other models and then of course it's simply robustly built on the inside as I've taken these apart to repair them.
I also had a Sanyo m7830 but I sold it because I didn't like it because it was too heavy and I didn't feel that the handle would last long being that they're so heavy.
I have other models but these are the ones that I'm currently using because of the feature set that it has in it line in music search for the cassette and separate Base and treble controls.
