I did it! I desoldered the volume pot from the DD30 board and soldered another one (from my donor DD30) onto the board. Everything reassembled;...

Some cassettes age better than others. Some; the mechanism degrades on others its the tape itself that goes sticky. If the cassette is "wailing"...
Do you think it was molding restrictions that resulted in the gear being 2 parts rather than one?
