    Sony's CFS-FM7, yea it's just a radio but it's still cool.

    We need Boodakhan to step in and make a ruling, I'm gonna say no because the pieces won't work independent of each other.

    All you need me me!
    Sony CFS-FM7 will work without the fm module. Without the Blue fm inserted you still have AM and the cassette deck giving sound from the main unit.

    Just found this Mura Steppin Out 2 from the DAK 1983 Catalog. They sold "lots" of equipment, mostly through long informative ads. I don't remember this model before, they did have a more popular version with just a radio (I think?).

    That Sony CFS-FM7 is so stylish, i do have the FM transmitter SRF-7 but not the boombox. Came across it when emptying out a drawer, not working unfortunately only static. But there is a bunch of caps in there that probably need changing. The SRF-7 has a metal body btw and is easy to take apart although it doesn't look that way.

    Ps just how does this come apart because I took the little screw out the bottom and nothing else would come apart without hurting it?

    @Cassette2go
    Mine is dead also....

    Taking apart is easy, take out the only screw on outside, now carefully take off bottom end, you will see the holding clip inside the battery compartiment, now it will click free, then slide off the metal body part on the battery side, same goes for scale side, it just slides off. That bottom part holds the two metal body parts in place, as soon as you remove it the body comes free....
    btw if you have open it up could you tale a pic from the inside?, i have a loose red wire, cant say where it should go....

    @Cassette2go that led breaks off easily and is also easily resoldered.....no panic yet. It was shabby the way Sony connected it in the 1st place.
    Have to check for you about that blue wire, mine are still connected but man those wires are brittle like porcelain they break off so easily.
    Anyway i need to draw a wiring diagram otherwise we both get lost, best to put it aside untill then. Will recap mine and report back, also with the wiring diagram.
    Do you happen to have the service manual of this Sony?
    And maybe best to open a new thread ft. this Sony otherwise these valuable posts get lost in this thread.

    My favorite place archive.org is down. The website is. That is the best place to search the internet for the model number and then ( model number plus dot . PDF ) is the best way to search for service manuals. Sorry no I do not have the service manual for this. Maybe you don't know, but I've had many times of black fingers working on these cassette portables but I'm not terribly fond of models that have either walkmans or in this case, the FM radio that pops out of the model to separate a source from the main unit. I prefer models that have all of their sources permanently connected to the model. I'm basically tired of this model and I'm willing to sell it. decentman4you2007@gmail.com send me an email and I'll sell the main unit plus the little pop out thing all together for a hundred bucks and shipping as you may have heard in my video and also seen it that it works great. I'll even include the power cord for it and it works on batteries too.

    well tbh this is not very high on my priority list....just came across the SRF-7 in my drawer and then saw the post about the CFS.....yes i like it, yes it is stylish, but do i want to drop 100 on a non working machine and that has to be shipped from the USA to Europe? Sorry not worth it for me, no margin left actually already making a loss...
    So why give up so easily? Only one broken wire and a stupid led and you're throwing the towel? But thanks for the offer but i have other priorities, just ordered a record head for my Nak 582 cause that's been on the top of the list but finding a recordhead took some years....

    Well I finally got me another Teac v2rx to repair my original v2rx. But I haven't had time to repair that and I had also have a Nak and a Denon and a JVC and a tascam and a bunch of others as well as about 400 boomboxes over 100 walkmans. And right now I'm working on a brother boombox. So yes, this little blue module is just too tiny for me to be working on. Remember I'm 6'6 tall and handicapped with no left foot so walking is an issue. I believe I've done my due diligence with this but I'm ready to pass it on to someone else who has more time than me and less boomboxes LOL. Ps I've also ordered two more little boomboxes to repair from Japan, so you're the little comment of it's too expensive to ship from wherever to wherever is just silly in my opinion. I ship things around the world as I recently paid $260 to ship a TRC 975 to New Zealand and have things shipped to me from around the world so it's no issue to pay for shipping one way or the other. Good day
