DBX is my favorite compression system for portable cassettes.
I do field audio work and capture live music with my Marantz PMD-430. It never lets me down.
My favorite deck of all time is the Marantz PMD-430. It is easier to work on than the Sony equivilant and more ubiquitous with DBX

This unit is a much different beast.. one has to totally take apart to change belt. No way to do so with 'tweezers'. Keep a magnet or dish around...
