I only just noticed the Weltron model numbers . As I commented in another thread the 21st century seemed a long way in the future in the 1970s. By now we should be storing our nuclear waste on the moon, but will be communicating using handheld devices that use CRTs (and apparently a thick cable up the actors sleeve).

I walked in to my favourite store in downtown Toronto to score personal HOLY grail electronics that are impossibly rare and sometimes even museum quality. It's called Classic Vintage Audio & Props on Queen Street West. I was shocked to discover a boxed Sony PS-F9 for $450 CANADIAN cash. I'd lost my job of 18 years the week before. So, I was greatly inclined to make my first trade ever. I swapped a working Marantz 2220B plus a non working Clairtone Project G3, plus 4 trashed Clairtone Project G3 globe speakers plus a very rare sealed gold reel to reel cassette from mid 1980's Japan. http://clairtone.ca/ THE NEXT FIVE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN AT THE STORE "CLASSIC VINTAGE AUDIO & PROPS" ON QUEEN STREET WEST IN TORONTO CANADA ON SATURDAY NOVEMBER 18th 2017, JUST BEFORE NOON: More about this store here: http://audiokarma.org/forums/index....oblaster-store-in-toronto-canada-pics.605212/ In return for the Marantz & Clairtone & reel to reel tape, I received this minty but non working (needs new belt) Sony PS-F9: All you could want to know on this website: https://www.ps-f5.com/about-the-sony-ps-f5-portable-turntable A huge THANK YOU to the owner of Classic Vintage Audio & Props, Siber (pronounced "cyber"), for enabling my first ever trade for this irresistible Sony masterpiece. By the way, Siber has most of the holy grail boomboxes available at full retail price. No shipping. Must visit fabulous Toronto for pick up. Good trade? Coolest Sony? A good trade and wow what a shop. I have to wait at traffic lights each morning next to two antique shops and I have never noticed anything of the slightest interest in the window. Maybe the joke in Back to the Future of an Apple Mac for sale in an Antiques shops is getting close to reality. p.s. Hope the job situation works out. I spent several months this year waiting to find out if I was at risk. As it was a friend and colleague who is into vintage electronics was one of the many one who had to go.
lucky you @WELTRON CLAIRTONE BRAUN . I have been looking for a boxed PS-F9 for awhile. congratulation.
Yes I've heard of this shop but never got around to getting there...and I live here! I chalk it up to 3 factors. Low $$ and high expectations and the all important "wife factor" If I bought anything from here, well let's just say it's cold outside right now in Toronto...
I visited it last Summer and it's impressive. Boxes are top notch but prices are a bit high to be honest; but The guy who runs it is extremely nice and helpful. Quite an experience. Maybe we could go together next time I'm back in town, maybe together with our mutual friend and respected member Ω SK-95?
Samovar, it would be a great pleasure to hook up with you and Tony in Toronto and visit this store. Heck it would be great if we had more of our great members join us as well! I could see us all getting kicked out of the place for drooling everywhere!
...IT POURS "jvcrcm90's" First is a JVC RC-M90W. Scored on Kijiji several years ago. Fully working in very fine condition. But missing right bezel above speaker. Thought this would be the only one I'd ever have as many have come and gone (quickly) on Kijiji since, but always at top dollar. Until last week when the second in the photos came along. Canadian version JVC RC-M90C. Has had the hardest life of any ghettoblaster in my collection. Most all around worn (loved) with more cosmetic flaws discovered the closer you look (good from far but far from good) AFTER the seller had added two new antennas, a new volume pot, 3 new belts, 5 new small blue capacitors and a new bent chrome piece over the dial glass. Plus a replica door sticker (slightly too large, currently being sold on eBay) Also missing right bezel above speaker. So it is fully working and after a weekend of cranking it I finally understand one main reason this model is considered the leader of the pack (hint: the sound). I only scored this because the seller listed it on Kijiji at 2 AM and I was only the 11th person who had viewed the ad when I woke up at 6 AM and responded. Seller claimed 16 other people wanted it, but I showed up first. Paid more for this than any other piece in my collection. Yesterday on Kijiji I discovered listed: "jvcrcm90" No capitals, no spaces, no quotation marks, no other words in title. One photo in ad with only description, "for parts or repair" I raced out there and upon pick up discovered it was another Canadian version JVC RC-M90C. Very fine cosmetic condition. Right bezel above speaker present. The seller (mid 50's) claimed he had bought it new in the early 80's. He had been playing it and loving it since then (incuding the cassette) until that very day. When a puff of smoke came out and it stopped working. He opened it up and found a scorched area in the bottom left. He researched replacement part costs and realized that it was a very desirable model and would cost $100's to fix (if possible). So he immediately listed it. A couple hours later I somehow discovered his fabulously lousily titled listing. Even though someone else had responded to his ad before me, and offered him double his asking price, he gave it to me because I could get there faster. He was so distraught that he wanted his beloved but mortally wounded box out of his sight as soon as possible; it made him sad. Screaming deal but smells burned. Here are some images from rare bi-lingual JVC brochures and pamphlets for the Canadian market that can't be seen elsewhere on the interweb, hopefully making this post worthwhile viewing for my (quiet) S2G brothers & sisters: I realize it's tacky to talk price, but here goes: Paid (Canadian dollars) 1. $500 2. $700 3. $200 Please let me know if you have an ORIGINAL JVC RC-M90J/W paper copy manual to sell or trade for your choice of boomboxes or vintage electronics from my collection. Keep obsessively searching your local online classifieds with a variety of creative keywords and be willing to travel longish distances quickly and don't be super picky about condition or haggle on price and you will eventually be rewarded with one or two or three or more. Great find WCB! It always pays to keep your eyes open...even late at night. The early bird always gets the worm as they say.. Want an even better story regarding an M90? The secret...keep your eyes open! http://www.stereo2go.com/topic/m-90-huntersdont-give-up-hope_page=1.htm All cleaned up and a battery spring from a sacrificial JVC Egg radio. Everything works! Baby gets some new belts.. Have yet to clean the left speakers droplets Seasonal pic! Total cost of this M90.......$8.00 for new belts from a great member here. You never know what's lurking around you..in my case it was less than 10 meters away!
The 2 kings of the jvc range are the m90 and the jvc pc5, i put some panasonic rx 60 speakers in my pc5 and it blows away all the boxes in my collection congrats on the m90's mate, the only trouble with these 2 boxes are, they make 90% of the boxes in collections sound like mickey mouse haha bought a panasonic rx ds 30 on the stereo2go banner and they sound so shit compared to these 2 boxes that they make music sound utterly depressing haha i advise anybody not to buy an m90 pc5 because nothing much compares to them
Hi, Radio Raheem: If you're a fan of the JVC PC-5 then this is your lucky day because below is a wealth of information, some unseen on the interweb, that you should dig. I am a fan of the similar looking JVC PC 55C & JVC PC 550C, which sound exceptional. Have you heard these? Is your JVC PC-5 generally considered best sounding in the model range? No one will beat Brutus442's freebie JVC RC M90 story. Ever.
Iv had all the jvc range and i would say yes, the pc5 is one of the best, and with a simple speaker change she is a boombox with attitude and can be had cheap and offer the same quality as the m90 if not better...the top of the range is the jvc pc7
Reno mate, for the sake of clarity, I think there was NO namely JVC PC-7, I never heard a single mention of such model. Neither did I ever see a single photo. There was a Victor PC-7, right, JDM, I tend to believe that the top Portable Compo model outside Japan was an JVC PC-6, both PC-6 and PC-7 share the same speaker system, 2-Way, bass reflex. Just 2 pics of my ones: Victor PC-7 JVC PC-6
Thanks for the scans Weltron, Clairtone, Braun! Your audio karma rubbed off on me the other night. I was reading this thread around midnight and decided to check Craigslist after hearing about all your successes. I don't usually find good boxes or Walkmans on there and this time was no different, nothing good under the usual headings; so I check some other combinations and found "biggest boom box ever made" posted seven hours before. I emailed the seller and he responded early in the morning. I was able to grab my new Sharp VZ-2000 before 10 am the next day!
