I've been wanting to build a portable DBX encoder for years so I could use this fantastic noise reduction with the little Sony D6C. The Sony D6C has quite certainly the best cassette transport system ever developed for a portable recorder, almost a direct drive, but one that fits in your pocket. Still my Marantz 430 was often the preferred option for live recordings thanks to DBX. Now I can use both... In this little box, I also included a preamp for binaural microphones like the Soundman OKM, for a complete portable kit for bootlegs. Now I've finally put it together, and all that's left is to try it out at a gig... For anyone who wants to build one, all the schematics and drawings are available here: https://github.com/pignoniG/AN6291-DBX-Portable-Encoder Beware, for reliability (aka avoid switches), this can only perform as an encoder, I have a DBX 224 to listen back to the recordings at home.
A friend asked for one, so I made a few extra boards, If you are interested I will make the complete box available trough eBay https://www.ebay.it/itm/306882536342 If anyone is interest in a complete one or just the boards send me a message!
