I'm getting long pauses and sometimes just booted out to where it looks like just text with no graphics. I'm also getting something like "this user has posted too many times in a short time span" error message. Anybody else having issues?
I got a page yesterday that was showing up with no styling. It cleared up after a bit of time. I also got an error recently that was talking about too many requests.
Good, it sounds like it's system-wide, I've noticed issues with other sites as well but not as severe. I thought my constant posting might have triggered a clock to slow it down.....
Maybe WA accidentally turned off the Turbo button on the computer case, so the server is now running in a low 8086 speed state. But I see many "I am not a robot" checks on other sites, so maybe that’s why it’s getting overloaded sometimes? Robots scouring the site so they can tell people about walkmans and boomboxes. Like some influencers Better just put a robot.txt in root lol... You have tried chatting with AI about boomboxes or walkmans? I think it's a really fun way to understand how it operates and interprets things.
I tend to stay away from AI. When I was a young kid with an Apple II+ there was an "AI" program in one of the Basic Books. It used to learn from your answers and was kind of interesting but it was pretty much the template of how AI works. I've noticed the Cloudflare "I am not a robot" check box on a bunch of sites now. It seems they were implementing it this year and causing a lot of headaches with websites and forums. "X" is not letting me in now, the sign in box is grayish.
I can relate to that. In the early eighties, as a child, I had an IBM 5150 at my disposal at home, and I had the program Eliza on a floppy disk. That was also a sort of early interactive AI program. It was a version in BASIC, so I could read and manipulate the code. I put quite a lot of time into translating it into my native language back then, but I never finished it. I suspect it was just too complicated for me at the time. But the special feeling of having a sort of AI interaction with a computer isn't a particularly new feeling to me either. But current AI is, in many respects, a fine tool. Yes, I have those kinds of access issues on many sites too. Sometimes my patience is really put to the test with all that waiting for those robot checks.
I have the same problem sometime now. There are several parameters at admins control panel like post rate limit etc maybe it can be fixed from there.
This is the message I get. It's not like I'm hitting F5 all day or anything. It also happens immediately when I open the site again after a longer period. It doesn't seem like the post rate of Mr. X has anything to do with it, does it? The post rate isn't very high compared to the past anyway, right?
That's what I'm getting even after cleaning cookies and running cleaners or trying a VPN. I did switch computers and I was able to look over the forum, the other computer has Brave which really seems to block ads better. Maybe Cloudflare is injecting something my stand-alone cleaners don't find.
Same here. Different dynamic IP, different browser, different device, logging in or not, the error persists until it suddenly disappears again. I have noticed, however, that it starts with the site becoming very slow and then the message suddenly appears. Sometimes with the plaintext version that Experious also had in between.
With more than half the traffic on the internet now confirmed to be bots, it was always going to be a problem with relatively small sites like this. I have heard Cloudflare are changing their default settings to not allow AI scrapers through (although I don't think this necessarily has to be obeyed by the scrapers themselves).
I kept receiving this error over and over just know whilst in the middle of posting a comment. I could just click off it to keep going, and the comment did seem to post okay.
I spoke too soon, my other laptop got that error as well. I don't have any front end access so I can't see forum "reports" on errors.
So the site is almost becoming unusable for me now. I was reading someone's story about a Victor goodwill find (I can't even say who now as I am unable to get back to the page, but it is post 94098) and clicked one of the photos to receive a "The following error occurred" message, but with no actual error. The page did "refresh" though, but lost all its styling and did not display any pictures that were past where I had already scrolled too. Clicking any of the existing pictures repeated the (no) error and pressing F5 the page has now completely disappeared and with just a spinning wheel of death in the tab. Interestingly, other parts of the site (like this thread) are still displaying correctly. I will say that I can only get to the site maybe about 50% of the time these days, which as an Australian is interesting as I am more likely to be visiting when very few other people are on. And worst of all, I don't know how the Victor turned out!
Hopefully Walkman Archive sees this thread..... I'm having issues on other sites, I couldn't get in AudioKarma for months until recently. Ebay keeps asking if I'm a robot and cycles through login a few times, X won't let me sign in the usual way. I'm putting it down to AI robot scrapers and scammers, sucking all this information up.
Ebay does seem to do some sort of check quite often, but seems to sort itself out without my intervention most of the time unless I have not been on the site for some time. I had chalked many of these issues up to use of a VPN, but I feel it is becoming more widespread regardless of this. Interestingly some sites where I had needed to "check the box" now come up with the screen, but don't require the box check anymore. I'm not sure if this is a sign of the technology getting better, or their greater ability to glean a digital footprint for everyone (or both).
Noticed that I can surf around the forum without problems except the thread I'm visiting to post then revisit to read replies like it counts how many visits and actions I have in a time frame for the specific thread, only text is appearing and if I keep trying to reload it stucks at about 60% loading -blank screen if I go back page and hit for another thread all is fine of course the problem with no access at all at times remains.
I was getting that as well. They say bot internet traffic is up to 40%, it must be triggering any website with sign in. So far everything is back to normal for me.
Okay, yesterday I was not able to access the site at all, there appeared to be no DNS entry, although "Is It Down Right Now" was showing the site as still up. Today I got this... Obviously I have gotten back on since, although some pages are showing okay, some are showing without styling, and some I can't get to at all. I will also say that if I click on "New Posts", posts from this thread do not show up, although they do in the top 5 that are shown in the right-hand navigation bar of the home page.
