Its not easy to find a WM-3EX (EXCELLENT).
In this auction a seller placed several walkman in one auction. I noticed one of them is a WM-3EX . apart from a 701c, some chargers and microphone the rest of the auction included bunch of junk items

PROS:
Probably not many buyers are paying attention to that 3EX among bunch of junks

3EX walkman cosmetically not in a good condition as far as we can be seen from pictures

a nice looking green WM-EX615 with all ccessories just for (US$129.18). I have 3 of them and never seen any of them with this price.

Cons - item translation reveals little about issues, so it’s a blind purchase. ‘Junk’ appears in description but could be anything!

 

Never seen one of those before, only ever seen the yellow ones.

 

Never seen one in the flesh, there’s six colours in the series I think. Yellow, red, black, light blue, orange, purple

 

Okay i have only seen the Yellow and the Black one.

 

It is very hard to find a WM-3EX with its beautiful red velvety box. So collectors have this chance to get one available on Yahoo japan auctions.

CONS:
-most probably wont work. Most D-88 in the market are not working and need restoration. Mine was done by KoasumCD and this guy is a real expert fixing them
-accessories (power cord,battery,...) not included

This one has been in the market for more than a year. The box is not clean and the item overall is not as appealing as the one posted from Ebay Germany.
Anyway, agree with you about the price. But there is no doubt that DD9 is an exceptional walkman and collectors love to have this amazing unit in their collection

For the looks yes, it looks amazing i think.
I have one but that's only because I believed people when they said the sound quality was the best of all Sony Walkman, so I had to get one. I got it only to think what the hell are they all talking about? it lags behind the DC2 and way behind the D6C with regards to sound quality. The people that think it’s the best Sony Walkman must either be deaf or have very low standards. Lucky for me I only paid £150 for it. I had it overhauled by Doctor Walkman, yes it came back sounding better but still behind the DC2 and D6C.

 

I am one of them .
To be honest with you I do not think we can ever reach to a conclusion about which walkman sound better. There are so many factors involved in this discussion. Many variables are involved.
But I believe your judgment about the sound quality of high end walkman units.

 

You are correct, what is the definition of best? It’s not so easily quantifiable when it comes to sound quality. With subjects like who is the fastest sprinter or the tallest person ect, there are absolute definitions for those things so a conclusion can be reached. For most other things, there are grey areas so no 2 people will agree.
