DO post your feelings about Solid-state-Hard-Drive-tune vs. the same tune played off CD... ;)

Yet another challenge - play that same tune off LP... ??? o_O

All my CDs are stored as .wav files (mainly because I too lazy to convert them to FLAC). Apart from differences between DACs they should sound the same.
LPs obviously have to be mastered differently and so are likely to sound different. What gave CDs a bad name was the "Loudness War".
I have a different challenge. Using a decent, uncompressed, digital recorder (maybe DAT) record an LP, play it back, then listen for the differences.
If the LP is from the mid 1980s on there was a good chance the master recording was done digitally in the first place.

I occasionally use Sony Network Walkmans: with HDD the NW-HD3, or solid state NW-E50 and NW-E403.
The music loaded and converted via SonicStage (highest quality MP3 or ATRAC) converted from FLAC from CD, sounds as good to me as the original CD in for instance the Sony D-EJ925.

well,... Loudness War is definitely at play with pop-tunes... but I have yet to hear any "classical music" being raped to that level... Lucky Me!!!!!!
And No, or rather Yes! Sony D-EJ925 won't be able to show the differences between FLAC/Wav files and CDs... I was hoping to get some thoughts from the folks who invested more than that into their Front-End spinners... Personally, I was as confused about this when I had $20k CD player as I am now when my only digital 'front-end' is Naim Uniti Star

Totally agreed!! Discman as a ‘portable’ nowadays is just silly: DAPs and iPhones do the same job for cheaper and Better ;)
D-Z555 is still the King but as with WM-D6C this baby-Discman speaks only to the crazies like myself and folks residing here at S2G…. You can get a true hi-end CD spinner from Rega or Naim for less, and get much better sound quality. Just do not hit them when in play!
