"The format accounts for approximately 30% of the Japanese hi fi market, according to a spokesman from Aiwa."
This is about stereo microcassettes! I had no idea they had such a big market share, it was a very small niche product here.

The article starts on page 4, I can't get the link to start there.

    Sure! :)

BTW, Philips once had its own format - MiniCassette.

That GE is not a bad looking box Reli and some of the Reader's Digest Audio Equipment are pretty nice. I've got a Tuner/Amp combo that dates to maybe mid-70's and is pretty beefy, made in Japan, and still works great. I think Reader's Digest had a payment system set up for installment payments on the audio.

I found this in the old forum, I forgot about how much great information that is stashed away down there, most of the new threads were talked about years ago, it's interesting to see a new version of them. This was posted by Jens AKA "TPR" one of the first guys to really dig into boombox history and he did a ton of posting about boxes. His research led to the Boombox Data Base on CD with over 20,000 boxes, pictures and information. The story on the demise of this project is also fascinating, look it up as Jens posted a follow-up a few years ago after he had disappeared from the forum for a few years. When asked where he got this information he replied "the library, microfilm" and I think he lived in Germany.
