Boomboxes with detachable Walkmans

Nice box Brutus442! I know Yorx was the bottom of the barrel but they probably had more kangaroo boxes than anyone else. I feel like I've seen 3-5 of their units over the years.

 

There's a few of those floating around over here Command8, Realistic and Mura both had something similar.

Here's an oddball, the Sony Music Shuttle, it's not a boombox but it fits the spirit of the thread. The center portion ejects and has a side mounted battery case, it all pops into a pouch with a strap for portability. A nice oddball unit in my collection. I thought I had some that Boodokhan didn't but I don't see them around my office.

 

Sony XRM-10, it's pretty big for a "Walkman" almost like the late 70's portable decks for skiing that were basically a car tape deck with batteries.

 

This one was just on Ebay, these are photos from the listing, the unit was made in Taiwan and originally had a radio cassette cartridge.

Another one that just sold today, I was going to grab it but it's gone, it looks entry level although it is made in Japan. Check out the tuning dial.
The Unisef AF 2000N

 

Besser Electronics of America is all I can find, they did have a few portable cassette players but they look entry level, this one sold on Goodwill a couple years ago, some better photos. It's interesting that they trademarked the Piggy Back Name. This looks like something that would be at a conveniance store.

 

The "big" JVC is a really neat unit although they are much smaller than they appear in photos. I think all of these units with the AM/FM cartridges used the same technology to transfer the sound, they have metal buttons that come in contact with the cartridge. I think Toshiba had the most versions but Infinity's Solo had one and one of the super rare Sony Microcassette Players had a cartridge radio. I feel like there's maybe two other brands with that feature.

 

Toshiba Boombox TV with removable stereo microcassette player, this is a really nice build and it looks much better in person than my photo shows.

 

The Toshiba has a color TV but it's one of the rarer versions, I call them the executive models, they look like they'd be on Wall Street sitting on some guys desk while he makes big deals. Microcassette was mostly for dictation or for recording school sessions, Stereo microcassette was a short-lived, one-up, on everybody else with a MC player and TV set. I've got a few around here, I'll post some more, there was maybe 5-7 at most.

Some of those Russian Boomboxes are pretty cool, that's one of the better looking models, I love the multi-unit approach. They started hitting our local ebay about a year ago but many more have started showing up, I'd love to check a few out up close.
