AKAI CS-50 Invert-O-Matic from 1970, is this the first auto-reverse system?

Stereo Summer Magazine from 1980, 16 Dream Cassette Decks, I'm surprised there's no Pioneer?

Marantz had some of the worse advertising (the goofy cartoon faces) in the 70's, once they started going broke they upped their game. From 1980

Esquire Magazine 1980, I've always loved JVC of this era, they seem to be bullet-proof.

    Teac 450

Yes, indeed, it's all that's advertised. I bought the Teac 450 and Tascam 122 MK II on the same day at my local thrift store. Each was advertised for $60 CAD, but it was 50% off on audio/visual items that day, so $60 for the pair.

I'm so freakin jealous! I can't believe the cover was included. So the TEAC is pretty old, how does it sound against the newer 122? I've got a few older horizontal players in the shop, nothing special but I've always wanted to try them out. I know newer machines will most likely sound better but most of the comments say don't waste your time with the old stuff. I can't help it cuz I'm a gizmo/gadget guy and that A-450 is beautiful. Are they sonically that much worse?

I haven't done anything in the form of servicing for either the Teac 450 or Tascam 122 MK II, so it wouldn't be a fair comparison. Once the servicing is complete, I'm sure the old Teac would do well. I've been using it as a playback deck, only. There may have been an ad in one of my old magazines touting the Teac 450 as a challenger to open-reel decks of the time.

The Marantz 5420 is another great horizontal-load deck. I have a mix tape recorded by a good friend who used his Marantz 5420 to record on a 70's vintage NOS cassette with 70's music.

A Sony TC-177SD is also a premiere table-top cassette deck.

I own four of the advertised Dream Decks.

The Phase Linear Model 7000 Series Two is a Pioneer deck as Pioneer bought out the Phase Linear company when that deck was released. It (PL Model 7000 S2) was meant for the North American market whereas the Pioneer CT-A1 was the JDM equivalent.

Here are my Phase Linear Model 7000 Series Two and JVC KD-A8:

This makes me wonder what the first dual cassette deck was? Clarion was known in the USA more for their auto tape decks, most were pretty nice quality.
From 1977, this is a double 1/2-page ad.
