Wikipedia is not the source of correct information, it is simply an aggregator. It picks up common usage, it does not st the rules of English language. Sadly, the "common use" rule of Wikipedia has won over common sense, so the "Compact Cassette" article has been renamed to "Cassette Tape".

"Cassette tape" is tape inside a cassette or tape meant to be used inside a cassette. The plastic container with tape inside it is a "tape cassette" or "tape cartridge".

I've always wondered about the term "compact cassette." It used to be printed on most cases but disappeared around 78, did Philips have a copywrite on it?

    You mean this one
    Compact Cassette.jpg
Philips actually had copyright on the whole Compact Cassette system but were persuaded by Sony not to charge licence fees.

I guess the need for a specific logo to indicate compatibility between Equipment and tapes disappeared once products like the incompatible Grundig DC tapes, and the spot the difference, but still incompatible Sanyo / Sears tapes disappeared from the market

p.s. Before @CDV comments, it obviously is a cassette; just not a Compact Cassette. Those had to be made to Philips specifications to ensure they would be compatible with their equipment (like their Car radio Cassettes which at one point were the only ones available).

This is exactly the comment I wanted to make :) There is nothing special in a word "cassette". It is a container, a cartridge, a small box. So, according to the rules of the English language, when used with a descriptor without preposition, the described noun should go after the descriptor: "film cartridge", "petrol canister", "Pepsi bottle", "tape cassette". Compact Cassette identifies a specific kind of cassette, the one that Philips developed (I don't want to say "invented", because to me this is hardly an invention, just an improvement on earlier ideas). This does not prevent calling it tape cartridge. Since mid-1980s they have been sold simply as audio cassettes.

I got the book a couple of weeks ago. Compared to the Sony Rock and Pop Review it is a bit of a disappointment being small and black and white inside.
At least the money went to a good cause. In a strangely connected way it was the J Arthur Rank hospice which was founded with money from its namesake who from 1945 to 1980 owned, amongst other things the Bush Radio company, a U.K. radio company which, like many others, had difficulty competing with the Japanese during the 1970s.

Anyway here are a two highlights from the book

As a result of our debate on the price of the M90 (quickly solved by Radio Raheem) I just got three early 1980s Hi-Fi magazines.
Not a Boombox or Walkman to be be seen in any adverts, these HiFi News magazines appear to be aimed squarely at Audiophiles.
    Loads of tapes adverts though.

Here is another way of advertising your tape.
With a cheap branded C60 costing about 60p at the time I would have bought this 85p magazine if I had seen it in the newsagents
    Agfa 1983.jpg
I do recall getting a few free tapes including a Sony chrome one stuck on magazines back in the day.
I also bought a few photography magazines (which I would never have bought otherwise) for the free film on the front.
Of course around the same time every brand specific computer magazine would have an uncased cassette stuck on the front
However, those were Type Zero C10s, loaded with demos of all the latest games.
