Wow. For those of you not familiar with Pounds, Shillings and Pence, which the UK used until 1971, those prices are 87.5p and £1.25.
Feed those through the Bank of England Inflation calculator and you get £15.80 and £22.75 in 2019 prices respectively.

I'm not sure about the 1960s but in the 1970s the widely sold Music for Pleasure LPs were £1 each.
You wouldn't have saved much money putting those onto tape.

Nearly all the blank cassettes I bought in the 1970s were Philips C60s, the ones with red dots on the packaging, although I don't remember where I bought them or for how much. Here they are in the 1971 catalogue.

    Philips 1971 tapes.jpg
The C60s must have been widely available. There again Philips products of all sorts were widely available back then. You could have equipped a whole house with their White and Brown goods (a trade expression from when Kitchen Appliances were always white and TVs and Music centres were always brown wood).
Strangely I don't recall ever seeing a Philips C90 or C120 back then . Until today I assumed all the Philips packets were red having had about ten of them.
I don't recall the Japanese tape brands really starting to take off in the UK until the 1980s.

You missed this page from the Quelle catalogue

Having invented Magnetic Tape, the Germans obviously saw no need to buy it from elsewhere

Two more from a supplement about Video Recorders in the TV Times, hence the emphasis on video tape. However, they both also feature cassettes, presumably for the people who hadn't got a VCR in 1982.

Multiply the prices by 3.5 to get 2019 prices

There are a lot of tape ads showing both video and compact cassette, I wonder if there was a bigger branding agenda going on.

Thanks for looking over this thread, I'm amazed at the interest but the more you look the more facinating the cassettes are. Feel free to contribute any materials you may have!

Triad (That's) Tapes from 1986 with harman/kardon & JBL tie-in. The page was cut off, sorry, not my doing. I didn't post the full ad with information on the audio units.

Sony from 1986, they tend to get more rare in the 80's. I don't think most people associated them with a tape manufacturer and they tended to be more expensive than everyone else. I love the ad, very nicely done.

Ampex from 1989 and from 1981. I never saw this brand back then or now, although I have a ton of their reel to reel tape. The second ad is from a professional recording magazine, notice all of the tape lengths.

DAK Audio Tape with a great write-up, just like their other ads from 1981

Fuji from 1980, right when Beta and VHS really started to fly off the shelves.
