    According to the listing the National is actually from 1969. Looking at the other photos I would guess it is painted or covered wood, as most record players were back then.

    $350 is about the going rate for a working VZ2000 or VZ2500 over here. They were all the usual silver colour. The VZ V20 is a JDM only box although it appears to be very similar to the VZ2500.

    it isn't the Aiwa Cassette Deck that is particularly cool

    Feed £140 through the Bank of England inflation calculator and you get £990 in 2018 money.
    People complain that stuff isn't made like it used to be. Given that sort of budget and sufficient demand I'm sure it could still be.

    He still wants big dollars for it, I've got one or two of those top-loaders, a very interesting slice of short history. The front loading component version really took over, some of the top-loaders are great looking but you needed double the space if you had a TT. All of the units I've seen are pretty heavy duty, built like a tank with a nice wood case and dual VUs were standard.

    I have seen similar units which had a small built in amplifier so you could hook up speakers for a self contained system. In fact someone brought one into the small office where I was working in 1981 having moved on to something better at home.

    With a small amp they would make great desk units, there's something more acceptable about a cassette at work vs a vinyl record.

    Here's a cool little mini, these are a tad more plasticy than some of the others but a worthwhile addition to any mini collection.
    Sanyo M-S200F There's two versions of the radio, the other model does not have an "F", I'm not sure the exact differences except this has a dial on the attached speaker, I don't know if that is original or not.

    Weird. From reading the description it looks like they have replaced the faulty volume control with an external add on. Mine had the same fault. I thought it just needed a good spray of Servisol spray but it was corroded inside beyond repair. I found a donor unit and managed to get a friend of mine with excellent soldering skills to swap out the volume dials. Works like a charm now!

    I passed by one of those at the thrifts years ago, I'm still kicking myself for not grabbing it, it's very rare (at least over here) and there's not a ton of options for minidisc. That unit actually looks pretty cool and not egged-down.

    Post this in the WTF? thread, sadly I think I have the service manual for it if someone picks up this complete oddball. Unfortunately there was more starting around 74, most are branded "Superscope by marantz" This is a true rarity with obvious off-market stickers put on what I have to believe the true Superscope Branding. Yes it is the same company but Superscope was the "budget line" but some of the Superscope Tape Players were pretty nice, kind of like some of the Pioneer Centrex were really nice. Luckily when I was young, I never saw this, we only were exposed to Marantz Unobtainium Goodness, just a hair better than Pioneer and Sansui.

    p.s The little Panasonic Mini-Disc unit I posted several weeks ago is now on its third relisting.
    Since I don't own a single MiniDisc it isn't of interest to me (or anyone else it seems).
