I have this Sony TC-60 that I took apart. A lot the internal rubber wheels are old and likely will slip. I wonder if there parts form other models I can use. The belt is still intact despite being 56 years old. I washed the mechanism and motherboard in alchol as everything was smattered in grease and eggs. Hoped that din't ruin the motherboard. I also need some way to power the machine with mains. I can't figure out wether the voltage is switched to 240v as it is apart. The battries wires I had accidently torn off :/. I am thinking of rigging a polorize C7 plug as it is close to the orignal. But I am not sure the pins will match a C7 plug. Even if does work it would be a nice display piece.
Regarding rubber tires, getting these from a donor unit is not a good idea as it will have similar age and rubber will be degraded to a similar way. Rather, there are 2 better options: - restore the rubber using a treatment chemical such as Rubber Renue, Nowa Guma, etc. If the rubber is still soft, this can restore it. - replace the tires with new ones. Take them out, measure the dimensions with calipers and search for new ones. https://fixyouraudio.com/product-category/spare-parts/idler-tires-for-cassette-players/ In regard to mains being switched, not sure I understand the question. But if you're reffering to batteries being switched when mains plug is inserted, that is almost always the case since 99% of these devices were designed to be used with alkaline batteries.
Due to the tropical high humidity where I live and poor storage of the unit. All of the rubber is hard as a rock. Oh neat there spare tryes. What I mean is spare parts made for other models that would fit. Like the rubber pinch roller. I would need a new c clip as the original has turned to dust. The switch is for multi volt 240v and 120v. I might get new screws as I had lost most the originals. Plus newer ones are nicer and easy to get. Less soft and less easy to strip. With big fat letters on the unit it says ISO screws. I am going use lighter fluid to remove the old adhesive that used to hold any of the metal plates. I will use wood glue to stick them back on as it is strong and easy to work with.
These older units almost always use the 13 x 8 x 2mm for the pinch roller: https://fixyouraudio.com/product/pinch-roller-13x8x2mm/ C clips are available on in China, search Aliexpress. But you need to have some idea of dimension needed. Apart from this don't think I can help you much more. It's questionable if it's even worth restoring this unit if screws turned to rust and it's all corroded. May be simpler to buy another unit and keep this one for spare parts.
aliexpress seems to have an endless supply of rubber but it seems to be difficult to find higher quality. I have a higher-end TC-124 and both the plug (hole) and back label are clearly marked "117V," I don't know what your local voltage is but I'd try it on batteries first. Even though the main belt looks good, it's probably so old that it will slip too much to play tape or break within a few days of use. Good luck!
The screws were stored in boxes made form Legoa with dividers. I can get the c clips and other minor hardware. Form a local hardware store. Not lucky to live in the US where they seem to have stores with a massive and well sorted nuts and bolts. My local voltage is like most of the world 220v to 240v. I can not power it off battries as I had torn the wires off when moving it around :/. I was younger when I took apart. Now looking at it you din't need to unscrew the motherboard. The last 2 screws holding the deck down were disgused as screw post with a slot cut into them. I need to learn basic soldering to reattach them. By these conditions I was thiking of just getting the hardware and using a display model. As I have import all the parts form the EU or US. Got for 20rm (5 usd). Not bad gave tons of knowledge on the design of Sonys form this peroid. Also thanks to you I know that you can replace the tyres if need be. It is very hand built and slapped together with revision wires.
