    Hi All,

new to this forum although have dropped in on the site in the last few weeks as my interest in walkman has grown somewhat.

Used to have a couple of Aiwa walkmen back in the 90's both stolen/lost and was rummaging through the junk at home in this lockdown time here in UK and came across my wife's old Sony WM2055, it was not working but I have got it working and am waiting for a new belt.

Anyway have become interested in Sony walkmen again and dug out some old examples on ebay which I am in the process of refurbing.

And here is my puzzle. I bought an old WM194 which was supposed to need just a belt to have a play around on. Not really just a belt needed the micro switch sorting, the brushless motor sorting all done but there was an issue with the headphone socket.

I thought it needed cleaning but no there appears to be something wrong in the circuit. There is a diode in the circuit before the hot tip connection into the socket. The diode checks out on my meter but absolutely no signal is getting to the hot tip, the other channel and ground are fine. However if I connect the hot tip to the other side of the diode the channel fires up.

Anyone think of what the issue might be?

Welcome! Headphone jacks get some of worse abuse. I don't know how the diode and tip are connected but I'd try reflowing the solder between the two. I'm low on the skill level for this stuff but can do the easy stuff.
