Hi! I'm Bill and I like old electronics. I service cassette deck and r2r decks. I recently found dad's Toshiba Walky and I started collecting portable players.
Welcome to the club! You might be like me and find tape media facinating and fun to mess with (on the days I'm not deep into a repair and everything is coated with goo). Outside of portables, I have several big old R2Rs and cassette decks, being a life-long tinkerer I love the complex mechs of tape players.
In my office I have a Pioneer RT-707, a TEAC A-4010S and a UHER Report 4000. Out in my shop I have several more, mostly AKAI, TEAC and a couple Sonys. One of the Sonys, I think it's a TC-640, is the best looking, it's a tiny machine but it's a little more impressive then the big TEACs. 20 years ago I could find R2Rs for around $20 USD, the last one I saw a few days ago, a non-working entry-level TEAC was priced at $300! I scored a TEAC, AR-XA TT and 75 NOS R2R tapes for $75 bones three years ago at an antique toy store. They take up a lot of space so I'm not actively looking anymore.
