Hi, I’m born in the 80s and that makes me almost 40 year old. I was really into Walkmans in the 90s and owned several Sony and Aiwa portables. Some 10 years later I bought a few others via online auctions and 2nd hand sites. Not a real collector though, but simply being able to pick these pieces of retro tech up every so often puts a smile on my face. I have a few that I’m looking to sell in the near future, since I don’t need 20 of them to enjoy the build quality and feel. Some also need a new belt and I’ve been watching Techmoan, Does not compute and other YouTube channels but still need to take the plunge. Would be very happy to see the all time favorites in real life sometime, the DD9 and so on after COVID! Let me know if there is an avid collector in the Benelux that would be willing to host ? Thanks, Emiel
Welcome to the forum, there's a bunch of collectors in your part of the world, hopefully you can find some of them. I'd head over there just to hang out but air travel is kind of difficult right now. Feel free to post any of your portables.
Thanks @Mister X ! I posted a few photos of most of portables, they should be visible under my media.
Thanks! I have only one unit though since 10+ years ago these tubes were also not cheap. These are IN18 tubes, one of the largest (if not the largest) that were once produced. It is not in active use since the tubes have a certain lifespan and I only have 1 spare. The ones I have were produced between 1976 and 1986 and are NOS (new old stock), For daily use I would consider to buy the commonly available LED imitations from various sources. The clock can be swapped including 5V 1A adapter with UK plug (and converter), obviously it does run on other adapters too. It is stored safely bubblewrapped in a box and not on display or in use: Such a shame. I never seem to be paying attention when a DD9 or DD100 is up for sale for a normal price, so if anybody is interested do send me a private message!
