Having renovated many trk 8290, 8190 boxes the DRPS still baffles me , sometimes it’s all good sometimes not . Micro switch’s always cleaned and checked for continuity .
Sometimes when the button is pressed for a track number the rewind or ff just won’t latch down and stay to search a track , I know I am missing a basic but the more I stare at the system the less is understand it

I know the feeling. Usually when I do work on the transports, I clean the metal plates thoroughly and watch the movement to make sure everything clicks into place. On the older units it can take awhile to figure out what little part isn't clicking into place preventing the controls from fully engaging. Your photo looks like it could use a box of q-tips and IPA. I haven't opened anything in two years, hopefully someone more familar with the Hitachi's can help.
