Talk about rocking out in the 50's! I didn't take a photo of the Chrysler and don't remember the model but this was so cool. I wonder what kind of buffer this had?
Nice find. I'm aware of these. I own 23 record players spanning the decades from 1907 (think hand crank withe the big horns) to 1986 (think Technics linear tracking). They all work (after being repaired) and I take them out for public presentations here in the Seattle area. Called the Puget Sound Turntable Roadshow. I've thought about picking up one of these for the presentations.
The guys car and stereo looked mint, even on my crappy camera phone. I've never seen one for sale, I imagine that they are a popular accessory for the hot-rodders.
That record player, just like an engine, must have been taken apart, totally refurbed, then put back together. Probably works, seeing as how nice the car is. I've always been ready to buy one if I found one on a shelf in a garage at an estate sale, but never have seen one in the flesh.
I've been going to car shows for decades, I might have seen one or two but I might be imagining it. I love the industrial look and it looks like it has a lock on it to keep your record safe.
I guess 7" records won't warp as bad as 12" in a car that heats up to 120 degrees in a parking lot? There's a sort of famous picture of a young Elvis Presley in a car with one of the players, and he's picking a next record to play.
