Besides collecting Walkman, Discman, Boombox, CDs, vinyl, stamps and etc. I have 8 years collection of over 70GBs of MTV videos from the 80s (majority), 90s and 2000s. Genre ranging from pop, synthpop, rock, ballad, Eurodance, Hip Hop, new beat, techno and etc. Songs language ranging from English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay. It's already more than thousand over MTVs in my collection, and still in search for HD versions especially songs from the 80s. During weekend I could spend hours in watching these videos! This is the tvbox used to render and play my MTV collection.
We are lucky in that BBC4 has been repeating most of the Top of the Pops episodes, starting from 1976 (when they starting keeping the tapes). They are currently up to 1986. Guess what is set to Series Record on my Humax PVR. There are lots of clips on Youtube but full episodes tend to get removed for copyright reasons. Of course the great thing about Digital Collections is that they don't take up much space. I have 25 GBs of Catalogue Scans on the PC here. I don't think that you can rely on things being online. We were lucky that Michelle managed to save the Stereo2Go archive. Several other good sites have just disappeared without trace. p.s Having seen it last weekend, I'm sure most 80s music fans would like the film Bohemian Rhapsody. There is scene about Queens first performance on Top of the Pops in that, while the Live Aid sequence at the end of the film is spot on.
