The pc55 is so beutiful used to be a personal grail of mine it's just the sound is such a let down, such a shame, thanks for the memories seb Lad
The 55 is a tad bass shy but it's deck was second to none as far as boomboxes go IMHO. The amp can drive home speakers with some authority. Heavy as hell but she was one of the last great boxes before the dreaded "egg box" revolution
What the pc55 lacked was a decent loudness cercuit, i mean have you heard the m90 without the loudness engaged, it's nothing special
Yes the speakers were the week link but the main unit, particularly the cassette deck were mighty fine. Years ago I used the PC-55's deck for tape dubbing! Even plugged it into the back of my hifi when I had a party (My main deck at the time didn't have auto reverse!) It sounded great and it's build quality was of a higher standard than some home cassette decks! Sadly the PC-55 and I parted company in the early 1990's, given to a friend who needed some sounds. I don't know what became of it but it was never in the best of condition, pretty tatty having had a hard life! I bought it from a boot sale with no handle and as I recall no way to attach the speakers! But it worked well other than the bland sounding speakers! Wish I'd kept hold of the thing now!
Maybe I'm wrong but most portable stereos of this era sound a hell of a lot better with the loudness switched on. Machines that didn't have this function..well i just ram the treble and bass controls against their end stops!
