Posted here a bit ago to introduce myself, lurked a bit, and after that I decided it would be fun to try and assemble a low-budget hi-fi setup on a tight budget: stuff found from estate sales for cheap, that was being given away, or that would otherwise be thrown away. This is the first find! I got it for 9 dollars from an estate sale, covered in dust secondhand smoke.

I figure this would be a fun way to learn about tape-decks, how to do basic maintenance, and get some cool looking vintage equipment to boot that might otherwise get abandoned. Considering my current setup is *nothing*, there's nowhere to go but up! :boogie:

JVC made some great cassette players, 9 bucks is a good start for such a deck. Also the read about the JVC ANRS is also very interesting, should be covered in the service manual....it's like Dolby but on the JVC way....maybe their system actually was better then Dolby...sssssst noise reduction on... ;)
    Good luck fixing her up!

Great find for 9 bucks! I always hope to find old JVC tape decks at thrift stores to find compatible tape heads for the M90, M80, PC5, and PC3 etc JVC boxes. Usually, the tape mechanism on the older models is on the right side. This one is on the left, like all other brands, which is odd. It's a great deck for experimenting. Have fun :)

I've been pushing JVC Decks for years, they were kind of the blue-collar decks back in the early 80's that could take a beating and they still looked cool.

If you get a chance head over to Twin Cities Smitty in New Hope, he's got a revolving door of vintage equipment with many bargains if you don't mind a little grime.
