The only thing that is irritating me is: why in the last picture posted by Mystereo, next to the letters of Sony logo "S" and "O" body colour is white, and exactly the same in the picture posted by Mister X some posts before (the picture with the other 3 WM-2 models in background) ...could it be, that this unit is the same on both pics but unfortunately was treated bad in the last years after first pic was taken...?
I'm very interested in blue, transparent and white WM-2 Kings of Rarity for many years now. Today I found one in Japan with same white colour inside the letters S and O...condition not as bad as seen on pic from Mystereo - I placed some higher bids and bought it. I'll give you some more information soon.... right here in this chat. Stay tuned!
Congrats JK , great score ! The "SONY" logo on the WM-2 is unique. This model has a solid metal logo that is placed from the back onto the plastic case , the fitting is so fine that you can't tell that the logo is a separate part even with a magnifying glass. A theory : It is probable that "S" and "O" were never painted in this rare color that was definitely a limited run and no one bothered , also it helped the fact that the contrast is not so high as it is with the black WM-2 Before writing this I took a silver WM-2 and with a watchmakers glass tried to see if "S" and "O" are painted or plain metal , the result is that I think it is painted only because it perfectly matches the silver shade with the rest of the case otherwise it looks metal. The transparent walkmans where (sadly) probably promotional objects for various exhibitions , my hopes that maybe they were some kind of limited editions almost entirely vanished into thin air when recently noticed that the transparent WM-F5 is missing a part of the pcb so the rest of the internals can be seen and is not even functional. Again JK congrats for your new acquisition its refreshing to see this special kind of collecting to the forum.
You are right , although to my knowledge not high end products as they were in their time the WM-f5 and WM-2 from the previews page , furthermore it's difficult to imagine why a prisoner would need a sports walkman as the WM-F5 , though I really wish that's not the case.
Yesterday, the "Hokkaido" edition of the WM-2 arrived...this evening I did some maintenance like cleaning and new belt. The result is quite good - sounds nice and for me, it looks great!
First Time, I hold a catalog in my hands with the mysterious WM-2 Hokkaido Version inside...what a day
And the transparent F5 version... Sorry for bad pic quality, I will soon try to scan it in good quality.
Hey guys, i found some more informations about the "Hokkaido and the transparent WM-2 / WM-F5 in a Japanese catalog. In the pics below I used the google translator.
It's very easy using your smartphone. Step 1 - choose google lens Step 2 - load a picture for translation Step 3 - choose translator and language
Maybe you must first activate this google feature, I'm not sure. In the past, I didn't have this google lens icon in the google search widget...
I don't have a phone that will do that but my buddy in Japan uses something similar all of the time. I'll have to get something I can do that on.
Maybe another King Of Rarity: DD9 with green battery lights and another name: Walkman Dual instead of Walkman DD Quartz
Excelled posts @JK1210 , you earned a PWI ( Prime Walkman Investigator ) Platinum trophy ! - Princess Diana's WM-R2's are known but you can't get more appropriate walkmans for this thread , these walkmans are obviously unique. - We have a confirmation that Hokaido WM-2 was a limited run and if this is a Sony catalog it is an official Sony model. - Transparent WM-2 and WM-F5 , also a confirmation on my hypothesis that these were " promotional objects for various exhibitions " , if the translation is accurate : " ... to showcase how much technology is packed in this small box at stores . " this means that Sony may have made several of them , if these " stores " owned them it's not impossible someday one of them to appear for sale ! - WM-9 Dual ??!! I have never seen or heard of one , maybe a prototype or a preseries model , it makes sense though "Dual" for the two motors , in any case a superb find @JK1210 , congrats !!
