Sears LXI (I'm pretty sure this is Sanyo), $199, not a bad price for a decent desktop system.

Cool looking equipment from Goldstar 1982, we didn't see much from Korea until Hyundai started showing up in the late 80's.

A 1999 advert with a massive range of car stereos from Halfords. They are still around selling car filler, paint, bicycles, and inner tubes etc.

I wonder if that £679 Sony with 10 CD and 6 MD changer (presumably in the boot) lived up to its price. The most I ever paid for a car stereo was £100 although that was just a Radio Cassette. My 2001 Vauxhall came with a factory fitted CD player.

I didn't know they had a MD Changer, I bet those are rare.

Denon from 1995. They really turned it on with mini-stereos around this time, I have a feeling aiwa was bringing in the mid-level and Denon was shooting higher. Check out the pricing, this was not a cheap system, even the speakers look to be 60,000 Yen.

Yamaha is non-existant over here with mini/midi stereos, the closest would be one of their 80's boomboxes. Otherwise they have a ton of other products, guitars, keyboards, motorcycles, etcs.

    Denon RCD-M39

I picked up this Deno RCD-M39 CD/Receiver with factory remote control at the local thrift store for $50 CAD.

I start the same way Elite-ist, then a few years later I have the whole system......

Nice looking system, what are the speakers, they look like tiny Polks.

@Mister X: The speakers are Yamaha NX-E100, which are part of my Yamaha MCR-E100 system.

Very nice! I should have been looking closer when I saw more of these mini-systems for sale a few years ago, now they never show up.
