    350,000 yen = $3716.00 USD Today!

Thanks for the work, it sounds like this is rare and highly valuable. Even with minimal design it still looks great, I'm still wondering what the TT is?

It appears to be the PS-X 9. Another cool ¥380,000! Even has a (wired) remote control!

I'm not sure what Battersea Power Station has to do with anything, are they trying to draw some Pink Floyd vibes? Chage and Aska later fell out of favour when one of them was arrested for drug possession. They are probably best know in the west for the song On Your Mark that had a music video written and directed by Miyazaki and animated by Studio Ghibli.

I don't know 99% of the groups or idols they use but a handful seem to be more popular and I'll look up a song or two on YT. It's too bad the west didn't have more groups advertising portables, I can see Diamond Dave plugging some big box, he had the world's longest in one of his videos.

Most of the bands never caught on over here but now were seeing a trickling come through, bands like Band-Maid, Shonen Knife and Baby Metal have tried to tap into the market but have been playing mostly clubs.

Babymetal played John Cain Arena here in Melbourne, which can seat 11,000 depending on the setup. Sadly I found out about it 2 days after it happened. :cry

You have to go to somewhat dodgier parts of the internet to see the actual MV.

Actually, found it on Vimeo which might be a bit better.

1978, I love this style with cassette and CB, still haven't seen one up close yet.

TEAC Car Decks are very rare, this must be one of their first models from 1972.

1989.10, neat looking system, kind of looks like a Yamaha. Check out the handles and stands, anybody seen one of these?

It looks like a Japan only model, although there are a couple of videos showing them in Vietnam. I would assume they have been imported, so I wonder what they do about the voltage difference? I must say I am not a fan of those speakers being not quite as high as the main unit, and it appears they just hang slightly above the ground if they are attached with the optional connectors! I guess it is going for the "industrial" look, although I have my doubts that it has the industrial build quality, not quite the "new badge" era, but getting pretty close.

I've got a JVC that looks a lot like this and I feel like I saw one kind of like it on one of the auction sites. Probably still decent quality, I'm showing over $700.00 USD in 1989 so better than the crappy all-in-ones we were seeing over here.

Unsure of the year but it looks like a later Sansui that was pretty expensive. It looks like there's the system price and two speaker options with the more expensive speaker shown. In 1989 I'm showing a price around $1630.00 USD which doesn't surprise me, I've got a new Denon that went for around the same $.

Sansui here in the USA was on it's last gasp, when the 80's rolled around BPC was taking over and, as a kid, I assumed mass-produced audio was the future not knowing the other factors. All I saw was mostly junk when they went to the squiggly logo.

Kenwood from 1984, no idea how good these are but they look fantastic. There was that brief time in the 80's were cars had room for the full stack and they looked great. Is that a cell phone in the bottom left? I want to say those started showing up in the late 80's and some would hook to your stereo for easier use.

Oddly most of these units had English Lettering on them.....

Wow, that Pioneer system looks a lot like an Alpine system I had at one stage, although it was a lot later than 1986! On mine the top was an MP3 disc player and the bottom a 3 MD changer with a spectrum built in. That Kenwood stuff looks awesome too, I could imagine it installed in some sort of wraparound centre console in an old sports car! I'm pretty sure it is some kind of CB radio in the corner, or at least that's what you get if you look up "personal transceiver". I literally just found out that CB stands for "citizen band". :D

That makes sense with a CB. I would think CB radios would have been huge in Australia, all the truckers had one here. I picked up a few over the years, even used to have one in my van and there was still some interesting people that were more broadcasting than talking.

Maybe more so in the country. Definitely truck drivers and anyone who goes 4WDing. I would definitely get one if I was going to do any outback driving, phone coverage is often not good here.

Once Convoy (1978) came out, the hobby exploded well beyond truckers here but the units all seemed aftermarket, never installed options. Dynascan was so big they ended up buying up Marantz USA around 1987, I think the Cobra was the most popular unit but I'm just going by a kid's memory with no sales figures.
