    Sony Interlock from 1980, I've never seen this before, more of a midi-stereo but it looks interesting and well designed, anybody have one of these?

    I recall seeing them in the UK Catalogues back in the day. Casseiver was a term used back then.
    Someone must have bought one because there is currently one on eBay and I have seen them before.

    Great to read that the original purchaser got 38 years use from it.

    A bit of a stepping stone between the low slimline "Music Centres" and the all in one stacks the size of a small turntable.
    This would need a cabinet as shown to put a turntable on the top, while the later units were matched in size.
    I had to fix a Sony one once and it was mainly air inside.

    Holy roached out stereo! Made in Korea, I wonder how that worked here, I don't think we did a lot of trade with them in the 80's. The Ebay one you posted looks a little "lighter-duty," I wonder where the system in the ad was made, the Japanese Brands kept the nice stuff in Japan around this time.

    Blaupunkt from 1985 makes an entry with a rare EQ component, my buddy always considered Blaupunkt, Nakamichi and sometimes AIWA to be the best portable audio and they were expensive back then.

    This gets a mention just because it's unique and kind of cool, a CB radio with AM/FM and cassette, never seen one of these before. There must have been some FCC Limitations on them, nobody else did it that I can remember.

    Interesting, I never saw one but here's another! The Panasonic from 1976. I feel like the CB radio had a place in the vehicle and the bitchin car stereo stack had another. The driver's seat was starting to feel like a Tye Fighter Cockpit, the more components the better.

    Check out this beauty from 1976, this Panasonic is actually an 8-track player but it might be the nicest one made! The dial markings are goofy looking but the VU meter and rack handles make up for it. It's too bad most stereos ended with the car in the junk yard, I'd love to find one of these.

    I'm sure this system must be an AKA of something entirely different.
    In the U.K. BSR were known for one product; record decks, which were used by a number of manufacturers in various countries until the mid 1980s by which time Japanese manufacturers were dominating that market.

    This was a typical system from 1980 complete with BSR deck bolted into the top.

    The pointy ends of self tapping screws coming out of the top of your car roof might make you change your mind.
    I'd also imagine that in a Lupo the light would be over the rear seat.:scratch2
    I agree that it looks really cool and aircraft like. However, unless a car was made with special mountings in the roof for it I would imagine installing one would be very difficult. There was a good reason why in 1981 many car stereos stuck to the classic DIN car radio format with knobs at each end, doubling up up as mountings, even if they had synthesized tuners and auto-reverse cassette decks.

    I think BSR still had some money rolling in around 81, aren't they still around? It wouldn't surpise me if that stereo was unique to them.

    I remember a few cars tried putting stereos in the ceiling, it didn't seem to last long plus it doesn't help that you have to look up to change anything.

    Here's another I'd love to find, American Audio Car Stereo with a TV set! From 1983, the little Casio Handheld TVs started coming out around now making this kind of useless.
