The 3D7 has good sound quality, it's not as loud as some of the others, but build quality is one of the best of the range. That's when Hitachi made them properly

Oh, I say... VERY impressive, Boombox Taff :)

I collected all the 3Ds about ten years ago (I also have a 3D75!), but I never got around to taking pics & posting them up - now I don't need to! Your collection is in better condition than mine, with all those boxes & stickers. Excellent stuff :)

I have been a big fan of the Hitachi 3Ds since I bought a 3D7 new in the 80s when I was a teenager - more boom for your money than anything else out there at the time (& soon every boombox maker had its own equivalent - flattery indeed). Their non-classic look means they're not very popular now, which just means their cheaper to get hold of.
Interesting that the ones you seek are the same as the ones I don't have - I'm not sure how many of these were ever for sale outside Japan.
I also agree totally about the timeline - squared-off 1st gen (3D7), then rounded off (3D80), then decline (3D40), then 90s ASW (3D90).
...& the poor performance of the 3D30 - shame it was pretty much the best seller - in the UK at least.
...& that the little ASW woofer in it's tuned enclosure gives a rich, deep bass (compared to un-tuned earlier 3D woofers), but can't handle the high volumes.

Anyway, fantastic collection, you've outdone me good & proper :)

Thank you Isolater... I did keep asking you to put yours up lol.. Glad you like them. Think me and you are probably the most crazy for these boxes. Would still like to see all your sometime though, Be great if we could have got them all together, that would be some 3D party. Still need a few more but getting there and thank you for your post  Cheers Julian

Yeah, we are a bit crazy in this respect.
Getting that 3Ds together would be fun. I have a good FM transmitter... just imagine the din! :)

They really get style points! They have the metal perforated grill down to an art-form. The old forum had another member that had a large collection of these, I never run into them in the wild but I might have a smaller one up in the rafters from years ago.

I used to think that isolator42 was unique with his collection of Hitachi 3D, but I was wrong, since BoomboxTaff has an equally impressive collection. Congratulations to both, and great to hear from you again! :)

WOW.... I remember that. On the Algarve beach the guy was walking around making people look. I believe it was 1990 anything. This is similar to the CIE brand.

I bought my first one the other week from ebay for £20. A TRK 3D2E in very good condition...it will need a little TLC but it all works........even the belt had been refurbished.....

    Hi all

I just got here "by accident". The thing is that I think that I have a CX-950 lying around (I say "I think", because I haven't used it myself since the late 90's, but I think it should still be somewhere in my father's house). I don't know the status of it, but I think it was working good when it was last used by my brother 10-15 years ago. So if someone is interested, I can try to find out more about it.
