My first box was a CX W750 in my experience the tapes and cd still play since 1991....i like the 3d88 and maybe the 3d8 the rest not so big fan but great collection of minty boxes indeed
Awesome 3D collections u have there Julian. I have a 3D80 & to me it has a nice warm bass without pushing the volume pass 4. Sounds really good when I play my old school beats. Like Casanova.
Hi all. Just wanted to ask if anyone know about the 3D2W as I can't find anything at all about it? Great collection btw Taff. I didn't know anyone else collected these as I started my collection to link then all up for one giant stereo and then found all you guys. Awesome.
The 3D2 (the 'W' suffix just determines whereabouts in the world it's sold - different main voltage input, etc.) was the smallest of the first generation of Hitachi 3Ds. A single deck, no aux in & only a 4" centre woofer meant it doesn't boom as loud as most other 3Ds, but it has a good sound at lower volumes. The 3 band EQ helps it sound a measure better than similarly sized boomers without an extra woofer. This old S2G post has some more details & some pics of my first gen 3Ds: http://www.stereo2go.com/topic/index.php?board_oid=193392314111653395&content_oid=193392314111817931 I really should take some decent pics of my 3Ds sometime...
Wow. Ok cool. Thanks for the information Iso. Really makes me smile that people know about this stuff and are wanting to share. I'm not just collecting the 3Ds but anything in the TRK range (for the right price) I'm gonna link em all up to create one giant stereo. I'll post a vid when it's ready. Pics of tours would be great man. Thanks again.
Back on the old forum we had contributions from one of the Hitachi designers which were very interesting http://www.stereo2go.com/topic/index.php?content_oid=259261214955672706&board_oid=193392314111653326
I'm not familiar with that one yet as it's not in my collection. All I can really do is speculate from pictures I've seen and I'd say it looks like the bottom left and right corners could possibly be them. Sorry I'm not much help.
If memory serves, the silver bits at the top left & right corners are fake piezos (& wouldn't work any better if they were real in my experience with Hitachi 3Ds). Also, the spec only mentions 2 x 12cm & 2 x 16cm speakers - no tweeters... http://www.stereo2go.com/topic/index.php?content_oid=193392314112191240&board_oid=193392314111653340
Nice collection! I have a couple of Hitachi's, a 3D8 and a 3D80, I think the 3D80 just outshines the 3D8 in terms of sound, but I like both of them! Sadly the 3D8 has a bit of damage to the end case but it still works and sounds like it should.
Thank you, mates - so no real ones but someone managed to fix it. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hitachi-...247000?hash=item5b57093c58:g:FKkAAOSw8GBc5~DI
I always get a smile when I see threads like this, even over time. I've picked up a couple since this thread started and I really like the sound. The ones I have are lightweights but the design is nice and they sound really good from across the room.
Superb collection Taff! Highly envious of both the variety and the condition of your Hitachis. Recently picked up a few myself (3x 3D models, 3D8, 3D80 and 3D52, plus a TRK-8080); as a kid I really wanted a 3D80 or 3D88, but even several months of pocket money wouldn't stretch to those!
A truly mazing collection! I would love to collect some of these, especially the TRK 7620E. Heaven only knows how you find ones in such amazing condition and in their original boxes.
just bought one of these, never been that impressed with the 3d's but always liked the look of this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154561689179?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 as usual though the 90's ones were better than the 80's
Well i have the box...it's not bad to be fair sounds better than something like an m70 needs to go in for repair though because of bad packing and as a result the cd doesn't work...i would normally give something like this away but it's almost mint and has had new belts....where is boombox taff for an update of this wonderful thread
