That explains it. I just looked on Buyee and there is an RX-DT9 there at the moment for £75 with less than a day to go. https://buyee.jp/item/search/query/panasonic RX-dt9?suggest=1 The problem is that the postage could easily be three or four times that and you have no comeback if it doesn't work.
I can guarantee he bought it for only 50-100 euro. The Japanese don't pay much for old boomboxes, they've had their fill of them already. There's one or two Russians who list boxes on Ebay before they've even received them from Japan. Each of their auctions has a totally different style of photography, because they simply re-used the photos from the Yahoo Japan auction.
I think whatever you buy on ebay these days you pay through the nose lads, at least these are high quality and a joy to use this one has actually started me using cassette again which i had abandoned for some months... at least this is worth having unlike a certain jvc i had of Corse this would have been a different story had the dt9 sounded bland and boring like some, still love it though even though i may have been taken to the cleaners lol
My thoughts about boomboxes, Its a portable stereo, analog of todays bluetooth speakers, so its has its own goals, wich are as long as posible and as loud as posible on one set off batteries, look good, be as big as posiblle, and sound quality isnt in priority list, its more as a feature, like dolby s, hxpro equalizer with as manny as posible bands and so on. Ofcourse decent boombox sound cant be crapy, but mid range i think is as higth as you can get with boombox. And i dont talk about hifi systems on batteries
The Panasonic DT680 is a truly iconic and amazing machine. It saw me through my teen years. Every musical moment was played through that machine.
