Tape deck pricing in AUD from 1978, when I get asked, why didn't you just buy the Nakamichi? this is why, even in AUD it's ultra-expensive. $11,385 AUD in 2020 (x.75 for USD).

 

AIWA from 1976, at this time they had two stereo boomboxes, what where they? I'm going to guess TPR-906 and something else, anybody know, I don't yet....

Some neat National Portable Turntables from 1970. I've never seen one of these up close, I'm more familar with the kid's turntable that was horizontal and didn't fold down, the SG-660D is a looker, anybody own one of these?

 

AKAI X-V 1971, AKAI was taking over the reel-to-reel world, mostly with the vertical machines, here's a rare portable. For the youth, "acme" was a generic term used for large companies, you'd see it in animation all of the time, like ACME Screws, or ACME Hammers, etc.

 

Some really early Hitachi Boomboxes from 1972, even if it's one piece, the TRQ 2325 doesn't have radio.

 

Philips or AIWA may have been first but JVC was right there! The JVC RC-200, I'd love to see one, the push button cassette deck is much better looking then the normal style. Check out the STP 908C? Portable Turntable, very neat looking.

That Sharp is cool but big money, it looks like the suitcase stereo didn't last long but different variations came out over the years. FM Decoder? Very odd that you had to buy that, my memory is that FM stunk until around 78-79, then rock started showing up on the stations, before that it was all symphonies.

1983, price in USD. The Sanyo on the left is the type I usually ran around with, this was big money for a broke kid, minimum wage was $3.35/hr and I was pretty good at dropping them. The recording models were non-existant in my town, I would have loved to have one but they were expensive.
