Philips from 1972, this is in Singapore Dollars but it gives you an idea of how much tapes were back then. A prerecorded tape was $12.25 and blank was $3.75 (Singapore Dollars), pretty big money, I'm sure the players weren't cheap either. As a kid we always had the big mono decks and the parents would supply the dime-store ultra cheap tapes for classic lo-fi recording but it was still the coolest thing ever.

Some goodies from 1984, Singapore Dollars, they were still making some exciting boomboxes, it looks like the Sony FH-7 is the most expensive but it isn't really a boombox without a portable battery pack. The Denon looks nice but kind of rare around here.

Tech HiFi from 1982, it's interesting that the KLH Solo is the most expensive one, this is in USD.

Even some of the basic Pioneer Boomboxes weren't cheap, from 1979 in USD, there's not many Pioneer Boombox Ads in the US.

Sanyo's from 1979, some more big money portables, it's interesting they stock the Sanyo AKA GE Mini Radio on the bottom.

Finally an El Paco Siting! The Kenwood DC20 from 1982, this looks like it's only the main body and amp, no extra speakers (that bolt on the side) or carrying case.

Quasar 1985, check out the cool-looking cassette in the boombox!

Edit: So three days after I posted this, I found that boombox at the local flea market! I've never seen a Quasar in the flesh before, I'll post it in the sale thread one of these days.

Some beauties from 1980, check out the price of the JVC RC-S5 in USD, holy-cow is that little guy expensive and it has a full 1-watt per channel, that's actually printed in the ad! Sorry about the size, it's a full size newspaper ad.

JVC from 1979, price in USD, some real classics on here! Personally I like the little 3050 TV set and the MR-200 Mini at the bottom. Interestingly there isn't the matching Twinch TV Set. They must have sold a ton of the 3050, I see those for sale all of the time. Price-wise, the MR-200 at $179 would have been extreme for a kid (and a lot of adults) but the ability to tape off the radio with a tiny gadget would been so much fun.
