    In the 20th Century Boots (now back to being a Chemist owned by Walgreens) has aspirations to be a department store, as shown by this adverts from 1991.

    Sticking with 1991 and Dixons (which were high street Camera and Electronics stores) want you to buy your Christmas presents there.

    Looking at the Sonys centre bottom might explain where the Walkman tapes I got recently came from.
    Now the five tapes alone would be worth close to £26.

    Finally, since we discuss prices a lot the same newspaper had a feature saying the average teenagers pocket money was £4.20 a week while those doing a job (like a paper-round) were getting £12.70 a week. No wonder teenagers preferred Walkmans to Discmans.

    We'd make our measly $3.35/hour and 28% would go to the feds, then April would roll around and we'd get it all back, good times back then!
