Audio-Technica Sound Burger from 1983, another very rare ad for a product that had a lot of press when it was released.

Here are two of the same models in the 1973 Selfridges catalogue.

That advert is rather special to me as my late Mother bought the same mono Sanyo radio cassette back in that year (and yes I still have it, complete with original box). According to the Bank of England multiply by 12 to get 2020 prices so it cost her the equivalent of almost £500. You expected some quality for that price and it is very heavy and well built (in Japan)

These are incredibly loud.....perhaps louder than anything else from the 80s.

The young ones don't know how expensive this equipment was, I've got a similar Sony Longman and it was a few hundred dollars back then according the the sales slip with it. Built like a tank it's stood the test of time!

I'd love to see a Disco Robo one of these days, that would have been great out on the beaches.

I don't anything about Rising but it looks like they had a big audio footprint and they were an early entry in boomboxes. I've found a few ads with audio component equipment but I think it's very rare in the USA.

The undisputed king of the boombox watt wars! Clocking in at an unbelievable 300 watts, the National RX-C300 from 1985. Too bad the ad isn't a good reproduction, it looks like a neat box with the bouncing spectrum analyser.

The big Marantz PH Series from 1983, this is in Singapore Dollars, facing off with the popular, but more expensive, Sony FH7. The Kenwood FM Radio seems to be a rarity. Sold at your local Gold Star Appliances.
