Welcome to the forum! Alot of people do it by ear. Some do it by recording vs play time, record a tape from a source, play it back and see if the track ends at the same time. The internet is littered with other methods. One of my tape testing devices will record test tones for me, I think you can also download them but the tone is only as good as the record deck. What some people don't know is radio stations have been known to speed up music, I have an easy time spotting slow music but faster can be a little tougher.
