new entry: a great Sony TTS-3000 tt with original PUA-286 arm. i‘ve done a few little things like respraying the metalpart of the chassis, replaced the bubble-eye and rewired the beauty. not sure what cartidge to use yet, i consider definitively a moving coil-cartridge, maybe a Denon DL-103 :hmmm (…any other suggests ?)

I have had this a few months but have just put it back together.

Having collected four of the keypad and digital display versions of the Sony ICF-7600XX Radios (the first being bought new in 1989), I decided it was time to get one of the analogue tuned ones. They are typically better for band scanning. This is an ICF-7601L first released in 1988.

It was cheap on eBay due to not working off batteries and having a broken aerial. As usual there was a problem during the repairs. All I needed to do was clean the battery contacts where they contact the PCB. However, the loudspeaker is clipped in the chassis but had got itself stuck to the front face resulting in a torn cone when I pulled out the chassis. As the radio is so thin it took some searching on eBay to find a suitable replacement. The magnet on the only suitable replacement speaker I could find is far smaller and lighter than the Sony one. Hopefully that is due to using a rare earth magnet.

Inside the tuning mechanism is something else, with twin tuning capacitors driven by anti-backlash gears and a bizarre rotating cylinder driven by the slide switch to indicate the band.

I did manage to save some money on the antenna. I was about to pay about £15 for one when I realised it is the same length as a Pure radio one. A replacement for that was a much more reasonable £5.

Recent acquisitions I think is what this title's about. 17185641460984778215899848524235.jpg
A sharp GF '9696 back in October of 23 I made a video in my cassette2go YouTube explaining how well it worked except for the tape cassette needing a motor. So then I bought a gf505sb from Japan and swapped the motors out and so that's what you see up there. And then recently there was another 505st which is basically the same model but just silver. But it's in very bad condition and I need only the motor so I bought that for $20 plush $70 shipping. Yeah sounds like a lot for just the motor and hopefully that motor will be good and then I can put that motor into the one you see in the picture there and I'll have two perfectly working machines. Mind you both have had all of the belts and bits and all that replaced so that the 9696 works perfectly except for the echo that shot. I can't do anything about that.
