This is over on archive.org, the full catalog is here https://archive.org/details/sony-1984-audio/mode/2up
Thanks for sharing @Mister X ! I just started to map several devices across catalogs in various markets over the years, I’ll add this one too! --- Edit: see http://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/indexing-sony-catalogs-for-portables-and-accessories.8310/
Here's an old website that might have some info on it, unfortunately it's long gone but mostly saved on archive.org. Go through the google to translate to any language. https://web.archive.org/web/2005101...net.or.jp/~an4t-tkns/taro/walkman/walkman.htm
@Mister X , thanks for adding the scans of the 1984 Japanese catalog. I just updated the overview and table in the first post, after taking a few pictures for @Richard E . As I lined up the DDIII, DD30, and DD33, I noticed the DD30 power jack was not at the same height as the others. In the table I made a few copy-paste mistakes for both DD30 and DD33, and these were carried over to the timeline. Edit: added the photo.
I think it was on www.Pinterest.com I had a day off from lugging 50 lbs bags all week and had dozens of tabs open. "SaaBoom.BxR" posts a ton of brochures but they are just the front pages, it might be one of his? He recently started posting on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/@SaaBoom_BxR/videos There's a bazillion pages on Pinterest, the hard part is finding complete catalogs.
Found over on HiFi Engine (Thanks andromeda!!!), the beautiful Sony ZX-7 from 1983. These are screenshots, the PDF has a little better resolution.
The specs for the ZX-7 in case anybody is interested, they even print the battery life! For us that amount of time was basically a day at the beach, batteries were expensive to run back then! There was a ZX-3 before this, anybody know if that had DD drive?
I have the service manual, but due to size I can't attach if to a post. If someone is interested, send me a PM.
Here's a link to archive.org's HQ version https://archive.org/details/manual_ZX7_SM_SONY_EN_HQ/page/n29/mode/2up
Thanks for sharing! The full PDF including text is somehow smaller than the PDF without (the version I apparently had), I’ll take it!
Well, I guess the prices for the WMII / DD will get even higher than they were before, I had to get my when I had a chance
I have noticed that, in your timeline for WM-D6Cs, you gave versions 2 and 3 with the same serial # range and everything else the same. What then delineates the two versions? I have discovered some additional information---the Dolby sicker on the back changed in color ~1988 from silver to black, around serial # 110000. Also, I have seen some posts that indicate that the pointy-to-rounded amorphous head change was ~ serial #80000. Can you confirm this?
Also, the WM-D6C gen 3 is listed as release year 1996 and gen 4 as 2001. These are incorrect. Supplement 2 was issued in March 1994 featuring the changes made to the WM-D6C Serial # 267201 and above. These changes included the SMD PCB.
The 2 service supplements only show changes in the electronics: - Supplement 1 (January 1985) is about replacing the Dolby ICs from CX20068 to CX20218; - Supplement 2 (1994) is about the new SMD PCB; However none of these supplements say anything about the 3 versions of the head. Also there is another change (CX20084 to CX069) which none of the supplements show. This change happened during the production of SMD PCB, some of them having CX20084, while others CX069. In my opinion, there needs to be more information, as it's possible not all these changes occured at the same time. For example, one question is if the change to CX069 coincides with the change from 35711 head to 35712 head. If so, this is the last generation released in 2001.
"However none of these supplements say anything about the 3 head versions." HOLD THE PHONE!! There's a 3-head version of the WM-D6C??
