Hello everyone, I am currently trying to repair a Sony TC-D5 and I have this problem where the left VU-meter instantly peaks to the right when I press record, when I record something I can hear sound coming back from the left channel but on a scale of 1-10 it is about a 3,5 in loudness, the potentiometer doesn't affect the VU meter or the sound recording on the left channel.. I have cleaned the REC PB switch alot of times so I am sure it is not that, I am fearing it might be the TA7122AP IC in the Rec section or something like an 2SC1345 that might have gone bad.. Any thoughts/comments appreciated!

What about the recording itself ? Does the unit record correctly or not ?

You can see the signal path splits into 3 (red - VU-meter section, green - line out & headphone out, blue - recording circuit).
The REC EQ amp will only affect the actual recording, with no effect on the line out or headphones level.
Suggestion is to isolate these signal paths and if one of them is not affcted move backwards towards the input.

As for the REC/PB swtich, keep in mind these sometimes need to be disassembled and cleaned manually. I wouldn't exclude that as a possibility, despite it was cleaned.
