Have the impression someone posted about this problem before, so I suggest searching on Google (works better than forum search).

Given the switch just sends a control signal (pin 41 if IC1), switch itself can't be the problem anyway since the same signal controls both channels.
Are there any other sympotoms like occasional crackling on the right channel ?
At first glance the symptom is typical of a loose connection somewhere (hence my question with crackling).
Can be anything from soldering of the IC, vias, etc. I do remember another forum member mentioning via problems on this model.

Good part is the circuit is simple, there are only 2 ICs: pre/power amp that also contains the XBS function and Dolby IC.
With a scope it would be simple to see where the signal gets lost.
Even a multimeter that can measure AC voltage and a cassette recorded with sinewave would be useful.
