Yes! I agree Fitzgibbon suits it better than Walkabout. I've tried googling the name Cap10 Walkabout PS112 but nothing really come up, though other more astute members on here have found things I couldn't before, so maybe I'm not trying hard enough....

I do have a couple of others that I'll post some pics up when I can get to them. They are all in my storage container which I'm hoping to get to next week and tidy up! Wish me luck!

    yay, thanks for sharing !

look at the name: looks like they wanted to copy the german brand "nordMende"

it looks like it's the same as the "POTUS" player - unfortunately with shipping it's not for me

i have to update this collection anyway as i got a few "new" ones myselfe in the meantime :)

    ...and there you're wrong.

i actually categorize those Clonemen in 3 divisions:

    1. LOW BUDGET featuring ffwd only, full plastic housing, sometimes only one volume-slider, rubbishy headphones and cheap, very cheap packaging
    2. MID BUDGET featuring partial metal-housing, ffwd PLUS rev in seperate buttons (location sometimes quite strange), 2 headphone jacks, seperatet volume-slider l/r and talk-line (button/mic), sometimes AM/FM radio, mid-line headphones and a nicer box.
    3. HIGH LINE featuring everything from MID BUDGET-versions but classy housing (non i have is full metal), often "big name", good quality leatherette, sometimes tuner-cassette, good quality (!) headphones and classy package.

the units from my cat. 2 and 3 are those ones where you actually spec the copied Sony-style, mainly TPS-L2 and WM-3 - and according the timeline is mostly visible (...remember: 1979 TPS-L2 was blue, 1981 WM-3 allready black).

and yes, the platform/chassis is allways the same. See an example of the three categories on those SWING- models: the SWING Calypso is cat. 3, SWING F/5 is cat.2 and SWING F/3 cat.1 (see more pics above).

i'm working on an excel-sheet, trying to list all (or as many as possible) Clonemen in alphabetical order with pics:

mods, is there a way of having an open-source way of keeping a list ? i can't carry'em all together (but i try)...

off course only if it's from interest, over all those years i seem to be the only idiot looting fleamarkets, boot-sales, household cleanings etc. for more derivates - and i allways get surprised when i find a "new" one - somehow they seem to be the 80's units (honestly !).

I'm going to post the UNIX, this may be one of their first units but it's so hard to tell if Marantz came first or UNIX, this one has eluded me so far. It looks a lot like the clones does it qualify autoreverser? And yes the price is close to $250.00 USD in the early 80's so it is most likely is very good.

Seen a few of this one badged as a Fairmate PD-550. Judging by the layout, I'm guessing it also shares the same internals as the Philips Skymaster (D6611)?

nope, doesn't qualify - the Clonemen only use 3 AA's.

also when you open the cassette-lid there isn't that little lever to the left pushing up the cassette, i also have derrivates of those, i'l dig'em out...

No keep going please :applause At least you appear to be focused on one area of collecting not just buying things at random when you fancy them, like my late Father, and now myself. After reading the RTM thread and a bit of Ebay browsing I have a genuine Sony Walkman waiting to be picked up from the Post Office. More about that when I have got it.
