This is one of the best threads going! It's unbelievable how many of these clones there are, some you can tell are just re-stickered but most have enough differences that they actually look like different molds.

...hmmm, did i mention the well known world brand CTX ?

who of you folks heard of that brand ever ?

well, far further up in this fred i introduced you to a CTX6600 „brickster“-cloneman, means a standard cloneman combined with a fm radio in a way as Sony did it with the WM-F1.

after finding the CTX 6500 i thought that‘s it, but nope, they also made a unit with fm-cartridge.

    image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

pity the headphones in the box are not as pretty as the ones on the outside, but who cares anyway...

now this is a cloneman with a proper eject button, strange the „lowest“ model number seems to be the top model (?)

maybe the onliest appearance of CTX are 3 clonemen....

This one has been on Ebay for awhile but I'm pretty sure it qualifies, the JCPenney 681-6000 Mini Stereo Cassette Player. JC Penney was a fairly large department store, similar to Sears and Montgomery Wards, all three would private label units from Taiwan and Hong Kong. Check out the SurroundSound Name, too bad they didn't copywrite that, it would have been worth a fortune.

Wow, that thing is in stellar condition!

I forgot to say the photographs are beautiful, thanks for all of the shots, even those clones still look good today.

I've noticed a steady increase in clone pricing lately, some are priced pretty high, autoreverser you may be sitting on a small gold mine!

I found an AM/FM radio only version, the Starlite, made in Hong Kong. The controls are on the opposite side so you can't see them in the photo but they look close to normal. Next to it is the UNIX (Marantz) PC200, I'm pretty sure this was a JDM Model only. The UNIX does have a jack for 4.5v wall power and it's pretty heavy for it's size. Marantz Superscope had Sony Tape Products distribution rights in the US up until the late 70's, who knows how much they knew about the Walkman release but I have to believe they sat in on those meetings.

that UNIX is definintively a 100% member of the clone-family. so many established manufacturer/big names used that unit.

ITT, Grundig, Uher, Rotel, TEC Was rather big in those days) etc.etc.

weekend is supposed to be rainy, i might dig in my boxes a little bit

I don't think this one has been posted, the Clarion LA-101A. This looks a little nicer with FWD and REV buttons, plus the buttons are angled, giving it a nicer look. For those that don't know, Clarion was a pretty big company in the car audio world and I think they're still around making audio products. They did have some home stereo components but most of the home stereo stuff is pretty rare.

Schneider were German and had links to Amstrad
    http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Schneider

May the instructions were printed specially for French sales. A complete contrast to modern day Sony who give you a huge sheet with ten lines of instructions in about 50 different languages.
