Wow! I found my post on page 5 of this uber-thread that I had CRS-152’! Using inflation calculator I wonder how much should be claimed to my insurance
@ nickeccles: as the UNIX (...wich crossed the ocean to join it‘s relatives at my cosy place here), this little baby is a proper cloneman and you‘ll understand that i desperately neeeeed it - anything i can offer you to swap ?
I found some more information on Marantz's UNIX Trademark but it's very little but it does mention it's "in Japan." The PDF book is kind of interesting, I skimmed through some historical information on Bell Lab's UNIX. ftp://ftp.tuhs.org.ua/Documentation/Books/Life_with_Unix.pdf
Hello. It's been a while since I've was here but not much portable Superscope radio's cross my path. But last week, I found another one on a Dutch site "marktplaats", marketplace in English. For 10 euro. It's a Superscope CR-1053S. The radio was working well, the cassette part needed some grease here and there but is also working well now. Nice find for my Superscope collection. Superscope CR-1053S portable radiocassetterecorder. FM, MW and SW (that's what the S in the type stands for. There also is a CR-1053L that has LW instead of SW): Cleaning and greasing:
Even the little radios are pretty heavy duty and they look so much better with the extra bands on the dial.
So I just posted the Sencor S-3100 Microcassette Boombox in the mega-sale thread and it looks like an AKA of the UNIX-2 Microcassette deck. I've been watching the auctions prices on these ultra-rare units and this NOS box is in line with what they've sold for. Check out the screws on the back, they all line up perfectly. 3
Two links for the thread https://www.whathifi.com/news/60-years-marantz-are-all-about-music and one I am sure you never saw in the USA https://v2000.palsite.com/mvr500ovi.html Just to be clear it isn't VHS or Betamax.
Interesting! From their range IMO this big beast is mostly known. Never heard of their rebadges like yours - cool!
If I remember, the Video 2000 was a Philips Format? I think Techmoan has a video on it. Marantz has had a pretty large product line, TV sets, audio, digital recorders. I think some was made by Marantz Japan, some Philips and some Marantz USA (Superscope) with Marantz Japan and Marantz USA still doing business although Marantz USA seems to be dwindling. Cool Sencor Mystic, I've got the other big one, awesome build quality.
Nice staff for fans!! Superscope Marantz EC-15P Electret Condenser Mike https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Supersco...213134?hash=item3b4f391b8e:g:FqYAAOSwaHlfcepg
Marantz CP-430 Press Release, Electronics Australia Magazine 1997, also known as the Marantz PMD-430 in the USA. Even in Australian Dollars this was big money, I wonder how much the WM-D6C was going for ?
Wow, I found another new model, the UNIX CRS-1810, this looks like an entry-level model but even so, it's kind of nice looking.
Another ad for the marantz Bustang QS CRS-5.5, which seems to be a newer version of the Bustang CRS-3.5 (Sansui FX-300R). Check out the price 42,500 yen, that would be close to $425 USD back in the 80's! We finally have a date, 1984! So it looks like the UNIX Name was sold off and marantz reinstated before 84.
The UNIX CRS-2800, I just picked one of these up for the holidays. Mine is silver with blue metal grills and the main body is also a dark blue. These are very nice looking and much smaller than the photo looks, while the unit has two 1/4" mic jacks on the front, there's no mixing so I think they're for recording only. This little guy does have a phone input, making it one of the smallest boomers to have those inputs! Everything moves nicely, even the piano keys feel like they're old-school metal bars moving around and the LED lights really make it pop.
marantz CRS-6820 and CRS-6810, the CRS10, which is not shown, has piano keys and analog VU meters. I think the CRS-6810 is just another version of the PMS-3500, they look almost identical. The CRS-6820 is a beauty, the relief lines give the illusion of a compo system but it's only a three-piecer. Marantz/UNIX used a lot of sliding switches on their equipment and they all move with a very solid, tight precision. What is the deal with this cover? It's kind of goofy, I have no idea what the shelf is.
A Japanese Brochure for the Superscope CR-2450, CRS-152 and CRS-2000, If I had to guess I'd say this was around 1978. Check out the pricing, the CR-2450 and CRS-2000 are the same price, the CRS-152 (which I think dates back to 1974) is the most expensive, 150,000 more yen. This brochure is currently on Yahoo.jp, I might have to put a bid on it, it looks pretty cool.
I was doing a little more digging and found a photo of the current marantz Building, you can also see Denon on the other side. Located in Ebisu, right where I've stayed, I probably walked right by it several times, I think it's close to Sankyo's Office Building. Check out the website if you like electronics. https://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/20080516/marantz3.htm
