I was browsing through some old Sony brochures and noticed something. The WM-DD9 and WM-D3 in this particular brochure show printed labels on the walkmans that look quite strange to me. The DD9 says "Walkman (small font) DUAL". I have plenty of DD9s here, and all of them look different saying "DD Quartz Walkman" instead. The D3 says "D3" in the lower left corner. I have a couple of D3s myself, and they all have "Walkman Professional [capstan servo - amorphous head]" instead. Does anybody know whether there are DD9s and D3s with the printing as listed in the brochure? Is it country specific? Or just early prototypes/edits in the brochure?
My guess would be that it's a prototype or drawing. Especially because it's a Dutch flyer. Over the years I have noticed that the Netherlands has been a kind of testing country for a lot of electronic products in those years. Is there a date in the brochure?

I have two of the 800 model Sony double cassette and one has the contacts and the other one has the holes for the contacts but no contact
Hi thanks for the photos you post I saw the contacts in the photo of the W800 and mine is not like that I'll start by saying that I've never disassembled it and looking at it it seems that it's just a predisposition for those contacts on mine or they are inside ... now either Sony has made more radio models with different connections or the model I have is not compatible with the receiver...
It's the 1990/1991 big brochure (134 pages) from Sony Nederland. I see now that the text mentions WM-D3 and the device says TC-D3. Indeed, the service manual mentions both, but I have never seen an actual TC-D3. I'd assume they're the same.
Yes, a few W800s have the connector for the Radio Pack. Most W800s I have don't have the contacts. I think it's country specific for countries that didn't offer the tuner pack (like the Netherlands). I guess it's a PCB mounting option, not only the connector but also some additional components. Will check next time I open one.
Don't you like this eighties vibe? I have almost all dutch Sony brochures from the 80s until the 2000s so if you're looking for something specific, let me know.
What a wonder it was back then, to have a superlight miniature headphones. It was one of the challenges Sony has overcome at the introduction of the Walkman in the 1979-1982 timeframe when such small headphones were novel. What I like is the UK commercial for the MDR-3 said "Heavy" and the dutch brochure for headphones - MDR-3, MDR-5a and MDR-7 - said "Licht!" which means Light. The same lady in a slightly different pose.
I really like those brochures. In the past it was so crazy I was collecting as much as boomboxes possible and used the brochures as an important guideline. Trying to get all of them lol. My favorites are JVC, because I mainly focus on boxes obviously. But the Sony and Sanyo ones are also super nice. @Timewarp; I keep an eye on tweakers. They might like this stuff too I guess.
