I've had this for quite a while but only now gotten around to fix it. Sold as working and it's was working but with high W&F and badly working volume control.W&F problem was solved by properly cleaning the belt path and putting in a proper belt and lubricating. Previous owner simply replaced the belt (with wrong type) without cleaning. Volume pot was another problem, cleaning did not work. Likely a crack inside. Anyway looking at the service manual I realized it was the same pot as in WM-DDII which I have a spare parts unit of. Result is a very nice sounding , very 80s looking player. Radio part is also working nicely.
I never saw these as a kid, Sanyo Sportsters had the market cornered in my little town but I might have gone more for this being a little smaller and nicer looking. I've said this a million times over the years but I preferred units with radios, I could barely afford batteries so when the tape started slowing down, the radio would work for several more days.
